Face masks for kids: 4 Irish-made options to cover up

As face masks are increasingly likely to become big parts of our summer wardrobes, keeping your kids protected is the first port of call

As we move (very slowly) towards opening the county back up to recover after Covid-19, it is still essential that we stay as safe as we can and protect ourselves against any health risks.

Kids, as loveable and excitable as they may be, can be a big worry when it comes to opening ourselves up to visitors and outings again. While it can be hard to stop them from running to greet others or jumping into a loving hug, wearing a face mask is a huge aid in keeping them as safe as possible from any viruses.

If you’re looking to stock up on face masks to prepare for the coming weeks, there’s no better time than to support local, Irish businesses with your cash. Many of our favourite Irish face mask options are sold out at the moment (but restocking regularly), but here are four great ones with kids’ face masks still in stock.

We Make Good

Kids face mask, including two donations to Direct Provision, €35

We Make Good stocks products from some of Ireland’s best emerging designers, standing to create more opportunities for those from difficult backgrounds to get creative and earn a living. Their face masks, which are made from new cotton or linen, are all handmade by women from a refugee background, who work with The Textile Studio — a charity that provides jobs and training to refugee women. For every kids’ mask you purchase, We Make Good donates two masks to Direct Provision, so that some of the most vulnerable children in the country can benefit too.

Little Comfort

Kids size face mask, from €6

Little Comfort is an Irish brand of cloth nappies, baby clothes, and now, face masks. These resusable face masks are machine washable, 100% cotton and dual-layered for extra protection. Best of all, they’re available in a huge variety of colours and designs.

Irish Socksciety

Howya Face Mask (Kids Edition) – €4

Irish Socksciety specialises in fun and quirky sock designs based out of their studio in Galway, and have recently lent their skills to making face masks with a distinctly Irish edge. Their reusable cotton masks will fit ages four to ten, and are the perfect antidote to the down days that come with social distancing.

Cuando

Cuando face masks, kids size €12

Cuando is a premium Irish online gift marketplace, and their newly released face masks are some of the cutest we’ve seen. They’re 100% cotton, have a pocket for an extra filter if needed, and come in sizes for ages two to 10.
