We had hoped for some dazzling start-of-summer weather this weekend, but by the looks of things outside, we may have to wait a little longer. Never fear though, as there’s plenty going on in Dublin and beyond to aid your dampened spirits. Happy weekend from IMAGE!
Attracting some of the best literary talent from home and abroad, the International Literature Festival is a chance to get everyone together to enjoy some beautiful prose, and insightful thoughts from the writers involved. Including lots of events for children, the festival’s line-up includes a bookshop tour, a Beckett poetry reading, a comic book workshop and so much more.
If you’ve ever found the silence or background music of traditional yoga classes to be a little lacklustre, the Deep House Yoga Project will definitely boost your chakras (or, as they say themselves, add oomph to your OM). Fresh off the schedule at Burning Man, the Project is setting up shop in the heart of Dublin on Saturday at lunchtime, with all the sound systems and yoga mats you could want for a yoga sesh. Tickets €25.
All weekend: Get the lay of the land at TOMBOLO 2019
If you want to spend your weekend immersed in arts and culture, look no further than the TOMBOLO project at Brow Head in Cork. For the past two weeks, six artists have taken up a residency in the project, and the four-day exhibition this weekend is the fruit of their labour. Giving them the opportunity to take the art out of the studio and into the great outdoors, their projects are under the themes of environment, community and heritage. A great way to get outdoors this weekend.
This weekend (and all month long): Go to the playground at Jam Park
Consider Jam Park your weekend destination for the rest of the summer. Launching with a Bingo Loco session tonight, the self-described ‘adult playground’ in Swords will host a Market Park every Sunday, rooftop terrace parties every week, and plenty of one-off brilliant activities — think a viewing party for Game of Thrones, a concert with DJ Jazzy Jeff and a sneaker and apparel festival.
All weekend: Head to Tralee for the Festival of Folk
Launched at the start of May and carrying through all the way to September, The Festival of Folk is the place to be if you’re in the mood for some good old-fashioned Irish entertainment. Step dancing, dramas, rich vocals, songs and stories, all held in Siamsa Tíre — Ireland’s only theatre company dedicated to the preservation and development of the Irish arts, and also our first internationally certified Green Theatre (due to the reductions in its carbon footprint and environmental policies). See you there.
