Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones reveal their most embarrassing moment on the set of Normal People

With so many intimate scenes in the hit TV show, there was bound to be a few awkward moments.

Actors Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal have said they are pretty tough to embarrass after the number of sex scenes they had to film together in the adaption of Sally Rooney’s Normal People. However, there was one moment that had them both “cackling” with embarrassment, with Edgar-Jones saying “that was the most embarrassed I think I’ve ever been”.

Speaking on The Late Late Show with James Cordon last night, the pair told the story of a day they were filming and they had to be covered in fake sweat for a scene. “Me and Daisy had to flip positions,” Paul explained, “but because our bodies were in quite close proximity, when we turned it made this massive fart noise.”

Mescal says this noise was “aggressively loud”, so naturally the two started laughing uncontrollably. “Me and Daisy started cackling, but the funniest part of it was that the crew were all being so diligent, and they’re like, ‘ok, Paul or Daisy have farted here, but we’re not going to laugh.'” Paul goes on to say they had to explain that it was their skin rubbing to the crew.

Daisy Edgar-Jones agrees that after that incident, as well as the numerous other intimate scenes they filmed together, “Paul and I now have no embarrassment threshold, there’s just one that does not exist at all, because I think once you’ve gone through that together, you can kind of do anything.”

The talented duo also showed they can make anything intense and full of lust by reading the lines of a clip of chef Guy Fieri learning how to make a hot mushroom sandwich. Never has the phrase, “Pour this hot brine over the celery and the onions” seemed so charged.
