23rd Jun 2020
The episode will include both Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones as Connell and Marianne
RTÉ will air a special episode of Normal People this Friday to raise funds for Comic Relief.
The special will air as part of the first RTÉ does Comic Relief night on the station, as RTÉ brings together top Irish comedians and actors to raise money for charity.
Mescal and Edgar-Jones will be joined by the likes of Dara O’Brien, Aisling Bea, Chris O’Dowd and feature performances by Hozier, Soulé and many more as they raise vital funds for Ireland’s charity sector.
The night will be hosted by Deirdre O’Kane, Nicky Byrne, Jennifer Zamparelli, and Eoghan McDermott and promises “a range of performances and contributions – and the occasional glitzy showbiz reunion”.
Speaking on RTÉ Radio One yesterday, the founder of Comic Relief, director Richard Curtis, couldn’t give too many details away about the Normal People special, but promised that it would “be really beautiful” and feature a special guest star.
Mescal and Edgar-Jones will also be joined by Normal People director Lenny Abrahamson for a special segment on the Friday show.
“I can’t imagine any context in which they would have allowed a sort of little extra special into the world of Normal People – and you guys have got two! I promise you, though, these are two very special bits,” said Curtis.
RTÉ Does Comic Relief airs this Friday, June 26 on RTÉ One at 8pm.
