Watch the trailer at your own risk. Touted as a romantic comedy with quite the cast (starring Emily Blunt, Jamie Dornan, Jon Hamm, and Christopher Walken), all some of us have to say after watching is, has any one of them ever been to modern Ireland? It’s hard to think so, just as it’s a surprise that Christopher Walken has the best Irish accent out of a bad bunch of accents. Delightfully cringe-making, we’ll have to watch the film in full now – or maybe we’ll half-watch it
In Wild Mountain Thyme, Blunt plays Rosemary Muldoon, a headstrong farmer with a ‘yearning’ shall we say for her neighbour, Anthony Reilly (Dornan). Unfortunately for Rosemary, he is completely oblivious to her feelings for him. His father (Christopher Walken) is working to sell the family farm to his American (Thank God) nephew (Jon Hamm). The Ireland-set romantic drama comes from John Patrick Shanley, the Oscar-winning writer of Moonstruck and frankly, we have many, many questions.
Watch the trailer for yourself:
The reaction on Twitter has been even better than the release of the trailer (looking on the bright side, it has provided some light, comical relief), here are some of our favourite reactions.
What genre is #WildMountainThyme supposed to be? I initially thought it was a period drama. Then a romance. Then a comedy. And then it occurred to me.
Horror.

So we’re obviously gonna do a drunken simultaneous mass watch of #WildMountainThyme on here in lieu of a Christmas party, right?

There’s fashion police
Grammar police
We even have airport police
Is there such a thing as accent police?
If so, somebody better call ‘em.
On the upside, Ireland looks nice. pic.twitter.com/lHrR5cWlwq— Dublin Airport (@DublinAirport) November 10, 2020
Why do people who don’t live in Ireland think we are still decades behind other countries ?? this movie is set in modern day but it looks like they are in the 1970’s #WildMountainThyme

It’s #WildMountainThyme a spoof? Like… a Zucker Brothers take on ‘The Quiet Man’? ‘Mel Brooks Does Ryan’s Daughter’?

I know this is the least of the issues here. But is Jamie Dornan actually using a Coracle in 2020? #WildMountainThyme pic.twitter.com/QBtJfFThO9

The covid wiped out all of the Irish people in the land, there was literally no one available to play the role of any Irish person ever again #WildMountainThyme https://twitter.com/rottentomatoes/status/1326220124701945856

Is it set in 1920 or 2020, I honestly have no idea #WildMountainThyme

In all seriousness, the full-length feature is bound to be quite something. We’re just unsure what that something is at this moment in time.
