We’ve all heard the old adage about judging a book by its cover, but you can’t argue that first impressions aren’t important too…

When searching for a home, you’re of course going to take into consideration much more than how a house looks on the outside. Even the most appealing exterior can’t necessarily make up for an awkward layout, or an inconvenient location.

However, a house that welcomes you from the first moment you see it certainly is a positive. Whether it’s a pretty front garden or even just a cheerful coat of paint, there’s plenty of things that can make a home eye-catching from afar.

Here are three examples currently on the market, all for €250,000.

Caherbullog, Lisdoonvarna, Clare

homes on the market for €250,000

This 19th century stone cottage has perhaps one of the most picturesque locations in the country, set on 35 acres in The Burren. With three bedrooms, a kitchen, utility room and sitting room, the house has character inside and out, although a new owner might wish to modernise it in places.

As well as the land, the cottage also comes with a series of stone outbuildings, one of which is around 20 metres long, which has great potential to be converted, subject to planning permission.

Around 20 minutes from Ennistymon, it also enjoys a quiet location while having amenities within easy reach.

4 Saint Anthony’s Villas, Old Youghal Road, Cork

homes on the market for €250,000

This Victorian 3-bed home draws you in with its sash windows, stone wall and pretty shade of blue, and it retains some of its period charm inside, too. Downstairs there is a galley kitchen, dining room and lounge, while the bedrooms are located upstairs.

There is a long garden to the rear, while the city centre is just half an hour’s walk away and there are plenty of shops and schools in the surrounding area.

3 Old Chapel Lane, Clonakilty, West Cork

homes on the market for €250,000

This one-bed home has a beautiful front garden with flower beds, a hedged archway and a cobbled path. Inside, the house is just as welcoming. It’s bright and modern throughout, and feels like it has been well cared for.

On the ground floor is a kitchen and a living room, while upstairs the bedroom has a well-sized bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe.

The house is within walking distance of the centre of Clonakilty and all its amenities, and the many beautiful beaches of West Cork are also on your doorstep.
