By now, we’re all well acquainted with the realm of ‘alternative accommodation’ here in Ireland. These hotel-adjacent offerings span a wide spectrum, from treehouses and renovated camper vans to glamping pods and glass domes, expanding the horizons of what we’ve come to expect from a staycation.
An offering that’s unearthing a whole new paradigm of luxury is The Woodland Suite Experience at The Montenotte in Cork city. Though I spent my one-night stay revelling in the glory of solitude, I must concede that the Woodland Suites are absolutely made to be enjoyed with your other half on a romantic getaway to remember.
They’re described as ‘elevated minimalism’, and offer an avant garde luxury experience to be relished. Interior design comes from Róisín Lafferty, and is harmonious with the outside world while incorporating the highest quality pieces ranging from silver travertine flooring, stone baths facing out towards the views, and custom rice paper to diffuse daylight.
When you stay at one of these treehouse or river-facing standalone outdoor suites, you’re entirely secluded, but you also benefit from all of the hotel facilities. A member of staff will collect you in their adorable little buggy, spin you up to the main entrance, and you can make good use of the spa (and Salt Room!), gym and swimming pool, the restaurant, and the on-site cinema.
