An Eve Hewson movie set in Dublin and new Love is Blind – what to watch this week

The days are getting shorter, the evenings are getting longer and all we want to do is curl up in front of the TV. Here’s our pick of the best things to watch this week.

Monday, September 25

Love is Blind Season 5, Netflix

The show that tests whether love truly is blind, is back for a fifth season. Hoping to find their future fiancés by talking to each other through the walls, a new group of men and women braves twists, turns and triangles in search of true love. Over several weeks, the newly engaged couples will move in together, plan their wedding and find out if their physical connection matches the strong emotional bond they developed in the pods.

Marcel The Shell With Shoes On, Sky Cinema

If you haven’t seen Marcel The Shell With Shoes On yet, make that your priority this week. Balancing melancholy and humour, the animated movie explores topics such as the difficulties of love, ageing, and loneliness with a light touch that saves it from ever getting too bleak. Marcel (voiced by Jenny Slate) lives with his grandmother Connie (Isabella Rossellini) in an Airbnb following the breakup of its owners, during the process of which Marcel and Connie’s entire family disappeared. Guest Dean, a cash-strapped documentary maker decides to make his newest documentary about his new friend in the hopes of aiding Marcel’s efforts to find those he has lost.

Wednesday, September 27

Overhaul, Netflix

When truck racer Roger loses everything, he receives a tempting but dangerous offer: to work as the getaway driver for a gang of thieves

Thursday, September 28

The Kardashians Season 4, Disney+

The family you know and love is here with a brand new series, giving an all-access pass into their lives. Kris, Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Kendall, and Kylie bring the cameras back to reveal the truth behind the headlines. From the intense pressures of running billion-dollar businesses to the joys of playtime and school drop-offs, this series brings viewers into the fold with a rivetingly honest story of love and life in the spotlight. Will there be a Kylie and Timothée Chalamet storyline this season? Let’s hope.

Flora and Son, Apple TV+

Eve Hewson stars as Flora, a single mother who argues with her son Max in an attempt to find him a hobby, retrieves a guitar from a dumpster and discovers that one person’s rubble can be a family’s salvation. From Irish director John Carney (Once, Begin Again, and Sing Street) comes a touching tale that’s set to be an instant classic. I got a sneak preview last week and loved it – it’s sweet without being overly sentimental and so, so funny.

Saturday, September 30

Gen V, Prime Video

From the world of The Boys comes Gen V. Young, aspiring heroes have their physical and moral boundaries put to the test while competing for Godolkin University’s highly coveted top ranking. When the university’s dark secrets come to light, the students must come to grips with what type of heroes they are going to become.

How The Beatles Changed the World, Sky Arts

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZZpdFtsuWw

To celebrate 60 years since the band’s iconic first appearance at Sunday Night at the Royal Palladium, Sky Arts is presenting an evening devoted to the Fab Four – starting with the fascinating story of the cultural, social, spiritual and musical revolution the group ignited. A unique feature documentary with unlimited access to the ITN, ITV and Fox archives, including some footage that was only discovered for the first time a few years ago, the film traces the band from class warriors to mystics of the psychedelic age.
