Bedside essentials to help coax you into better sleeping habits

If you’ve been neglecting your bedtime routine recently, these accessories will help to tempt you into bed earlier, and drift off to sleep more easily.

During the busy festive season, a disrupted sleep pattern is somewhat inevitable, but now that it’s over for another year, creating a good sleep routine can help minimise the impact of the odd late night.

It’s easy to fall into habits that we know we’ll regret the next day as we yawn into our coffee, but changing them can be easier said than done.

Changing your bedside setup can be one way to make your bedtime inviting and relaxing, here are some accessories to help you create a relaxing atmosphere, free of distractions.

Clock

If scrolling before bed is a trap you always fall into, try imposing a rule that your phone doesn’t enter your bedroom at all. Switch to a good old-fashioned alarm clock to wake you up, and you’ve quickly eliminated one of everyone’s biggest distractions at bedtime.

Lamp

Reading before bed is much more relaxing than being on your phone, and of course, it has none of the blue light that keeps us awake. A good lamp beside your bed will mean there’s no excuse not to treat yourself to a few pages of your current read before you drift off.

Bedside table

Having somewhere to store the things you want to keep beside your bed is key to keeping everything calm and clutter free.

If you tend to accumulate too many things, perhaps go for a minimalist design that will force you to be selective about what stays there, or go for compartments that hide away most of it.

Scents

Relaxing scents are a great way to wind down before you go to sleep. Light a candle, spritz a sleep spray, or use some essential oils to create a calming environment.

Trinket dishes

Whether you need somewhere to place jewellery at the end of the day, keep a hand cream close by, or just store a few favourite trinkets, a small dish to keep them together is always handy.
