Buying a new rug? Here’s how to choose one that fits perfectly into your home
29th Oct 2022
The right rug can transform a room but with so many styles to choose from, it can be hard to know where to start. Here’s a guide to some of the most popular styles.
A rug can be a crucial element in putting together a room, with the ability to add colour, texture and pattern. They often also act as a focal point, meaning that choosing the right one is so important when curating a style for your space.
However, with so many styles to choose from, it can be hard to know where to begin. Here are some of the most common styles of rug, and the kinds of room they work well in. They’re all currently available at Rugs.ie.
Ornate
These traditional rugs can vary from multicoloured to a more pared-back palette, but they usually come with an intricate pattern. There are endless styles to choose from, with some leaning towards a more geometric style, while others have lots of fine detail.
While this style of rug obviously suits a more traditional home, they can also really add warmth and depth to a more contemporary space, and will stand out well against a minimal scheme.
Colour
Whether used to inject some colour into a space that lacks it, or adding another layer to a more vibrant room, colourful rugs are a great option for any style of room.
For a serene, cohesive look, choose a rug in the same colour as your walls or soft furnishings, or opt for a contrasting shade to add interest.
Neutral
For a space where you want calm to reign supreme, a neutral rug is an excellent choice. Whether a flat colour or one that incorporates a subtle pattern, it will add texture without drawing too much attention, leaving the overall feeling of the room to be utterly relaxed.
Extra texture
Rugs with an extra deep pile are the ultimate treat for your feet, feeling incredibly soft and luxurious underfoot. Visually, they also help to soften a space, and add lots of texture.
One point to note is that they’re usually too thick for a door to pass over, so are potentially not suitable for a spot next to a doorway.
Abstract
An abstract design that incorporates several different colours will act like a piece of art on your floor. Choose this style for a room that you want to add interest in, and really create a focal point.
Make sure to choose a design where all the colours work well in your room for a look that feels considered and cool.
