Courteney Cox has delighted fans of the hit show Friends by revealing that she’s much more like her onscreen character than some might have thought.
Shooting to fame in the 90s thanks to her role in a little show called Friends, Courteney Cox is probably still best known for playing Monica Geller on the hit sitcom. Widely considered to be the “mother hen” of the group, the character was renowned for her at times neurotic cleaning tendencies.
Making it all the harder to separate the artist from their work, Cox recently proved that she shares quite a few similarities with her onscreen Friends character, with those extending beyond her in-real-life friendship with Jennifer Aniston and ability to rock a pair of light wash Levi’s.
Hopping aboard the popular social media trend whereby people are encouraged to demonstrate something, without saying it outright, the actress treated fans to a sneak peek inside her beachside home in Malibu, California. Filming a quick face-to-camera clip, she can be heard saying, “tell me you’re a Monica, without telling me you’re a Monica. I’ll go first”.

Proceeding to show Instagram her impeccably clean abode, all of her kitchen presses and drawers are laid out in such a way that one might think Marie Kondo had snuck in and categorised everything for her overnight. Such is not the case though, as it was all Cox’s doing.
Of course, this won’t surprise any dedicated Friends enthusiasts, who will already know that that writing team on the hit show based Monica’s cleanliness on the actor’s own personality trait. Friends co-creator Marta Kauffman said that Cox always had the tidiest dressing room and would often clean the other actor’s dressing rooms too because she couldn’t stand the mess.

I don’t know whether to be impressed or a little worried to be honest… that level of structure is so far outside what I’m used to that I think I’d feel constantly on edge there. It reminds me of that episode where Phoebe goes to stay with Monica and Chandler while the apartment she shares with Rachel is refurbished. Though bunking at Hotel Monica seems great at first, the worry of making a mess quickly ruins the experience and before long Phoebe finds herself running for the hills. Now, I don’t go quite so far as throwing pasta on the floor à la Joey, but eating cookies over the sink for fear of “crumbies” goes against everything I believe in.

That being said, I’d still love for Courteney Cox to “pull a Monica” and help me clean up my act, if even just for the Instagram aesthetics of it all – my life is more organised chaos than organised.
