Aidan’s back, and he’s kissing Carrie and smoking cigarettes?! What fresh hell is going on with And Just Like That… season two?
When the HBO spin-off reboot of Sex and the City premiered in December 2021, opinions were divided from the get go. However, by the time the 10 episodes came to a close and viewers got used to a Big-less Carrie and a Samantha-less New York City, we were all begrudgingly praying for a second season.
Confirming that the much-talked-about series will return for a second run back in March last year, executive producer Michael Patrick King said, “I am delighted and excited to tell more stories about these vibrant, bold characters – played by these powerful, amazing actors. The fact is, we’re all thrilled. And Just Like That… our sex life is back.”
In true SATC form, AJLT drew its fair share of criticisms — including valid complaints of tokenism — but the ratings spoke for themselves and the series cemented itself as HBO’s strongest debut to date.

Production began on the second season in October 2022, and though we’re still waiting on a release date, filming has officially begun on the streets of NYC, and paparazzi shots are keeping us incredibly well fed.
We’ve known for quite a while now that John Corbett will reprise the role of Aidan Show for a “substantial, multi-episode arc”, and now we’ve caught a glimpse of what’s to come. Given that the first season ended with Carrie kissing her podcast producer, Franklyn (Ivan Hernandez), many had mused that he would be her future love interest, but if teaser shots are anything to go by, everyone’s favourite furniture designer is back in the running.
For those otherwise unaware, Aidan is the true antithesis of Big. Humble, generous, and sometimes verging on a little too understanding, Aidan and Carrie had two failed attempts at a successful relationship over the course of SATC, and a controversial kiss in Abu Dhabi in the second film. And it looks like Team Aidan fans are in luck.
Spotted in a café with SJP, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, and Sarita Choudhury, John Corbett appears to be (prepare to clutch your pearls) smoking. But surely the famously anti-Marlboro lights, “I could never date a smoker” Aidan Shaw would never?!

Though the storyline and plot of the second season have remained largely under wraps, minds have been thoroughly boggled. An official premiere date is yet to be announced, but the show is said to be set for release in summer 2023.
