Wrapping gifts that are an unusual shape can present a challenge, so we’ve asked stylist Orla Neligan for her tips on how to tackle a cylindrical present such as a candle.

As Christmas is fast-approaching, we love to relish all the festive preparation. Gift-wrapping is an important part of the build-up to the big day, but oddly-shaped gifts can present a challenge.

That’s why we asked stylist Orla Neligan for her wrapping tips and tricks – below she walks us through how to wrap a cylindrical gift such as a candle.

Orla also shares how to make our homes feel extra cosy this Christmas. “Lighting is one of the easiest ways to create atmosphere and set the mood,” she says. “A harsh overhead lamp can kill a mood in one click. Dim the lights and if you don’t have a dimmer, unscrew a few bulbs and add plenty of candles, on tables, window ledges, mantelpieces to craft that soft, romantic wintery vibe.

“Thread fairy lights through log piles and even plants, along shelves and in corners to bring everything to life. Place candles near mirrors for reflected light or in groups on a windowsill or on a tray, at varied heights for different silhouettes.”

How to: wrap a candle

  1. Place the cylindrical present, in this case a candle, on the paper and cut a width that ensures a slight overlap (not too much) when paper meets and leave excess paper at the top and bottom (about a finger length).

Toblerone Truffles are individually wrapped, diamond-shaped bites of the iconic Toblerone crunchy nougat pieces in soft praline texture, coated with Toblerone Swiss quality chocolate – the perfect addition to any Christmas gift. This Christmas, whatever you gift, add a diamond.
