Ikea has collaborated with designer Sabine Marcelis on a collection focused on light
From sculpture-like light fittings to accessories that create interesting interactions with light, the range is full of pieces that look much more high-end than their price tag.
Ikea collaborations are always an exciting chance to own pieces created by prominent designers, and their latest one is no exception. Working with Rotterdam-based designer Sabine Marcelis, the Varmblixt collection aims to show how light can transform the look, feel and atmosphere of our homes.
Launching in February, the collection is full of warm tones and interesting shapes. Light fixtures are a main part of the range, including a pendant lamp which features curved pipes made from frosted white glass, and a wall mirror designed with a semi-transparent glass panel and light strip.
Doughnut-shaped bowls refract light and add colour to it, while the collection also includes two rugs inspired by the rays of a sunset.
Speaking about the collection, Sabine Marcelis said: “I wanted to take an unexpected approach to exploring the idea of how lighting functions within the home and to inspire people to consider new shapes and elements which blend into and highlight different types of interior spaces in new, bold, and artistic ways.”
Of the 17-piece limited-edition collection, there are four items which will remain in the Ikea range long-term: the table/wall lamp rounded in orange glass; pendant lamp; metal circular wall lamp; and the rounded wall/mirror lamp.
