A mid-terraced property in Co Cork, the miniature one-bedroom home is within walking distance of Cork City centre.

Situated at 24 Vicar Street in Cork City – one of Cork’s most historic streets – this unique home stands out in stark contrast to its neighbours which tower above it. Sandwiched between two other terraced homes, the property was originally built in the 1900s – though it has been extensively modernised since then.

While there isn’t a set standard when it comes to what constitutes a tiny house, typically, they measure between 100 and 400 square feet. This property comes in at 366 sq ft, meaning it falls well within the above bracket. For context, according to Statista, a global data and business intelligence platform with an extensive collection of statistics, reports, and insights, the average size of newly completed single-family houses in Ireland was 216 square metres last year.

Upon entering, you’re greeted by high ceilings that optimise natural light and foster a spacious and airy ambience. Meticulously refurbished over the years, the space features an open-plan design with a mezzanine – just large enough to hold a double bed – and is enhanced by a skylight above.

Herringbone wood flooring features throughout the home while the fully integrated kitchen has been furnished with modern appliances, complemented by a double sink. The bathroom is fully tiled and boasts a three-piece rain shower suite with a window that facilitates both natural light and ventilation. A custom-made patio glass door opens onto a small private courtyard to the rear.

A small but cosy home, the property is conveniently close to an array of amenities including many shops and restaurants. There are also many public transport links in the vicinity while Cork City centre is just a 14-minute walk away.

According to The Irish Independent, the house is regarded as one of the smallest houses in Ireland and represents the perfect size for buyers seeking to jump on the ‘Tiny House’ trend. Prior to its refurbishment, the property sold for €66,000 in 2017, as per the Property Price Register. Now priced at more than double that, the home is currently on the market for €170,000.
