Killarney-born rising star Jessie Buckley is the star of Netflix’s new psychological horror film, I’m Thinking of Ending Things

Jessie Buckley is the star of the new and surreal Charlie Kaufman Netflix Original, I’m Thinking of Ending Things. Before the pandemic kicked off, Jessie was filming Fargo, and over the last two years, she has had roles as a firefighter’s wife in HBO’s Chernobyl and in the film Wild Rose as an aspiring country star. This summer, she was due to play Juliet in Romeo and Juliet in London’s National Theatre.

Jessie Buckley, 30, is from Killarney and the oldest of five, born to a harpist and singer mother and bar manager father. Following a rejection from drama school, Jessie entered the BBC reality show competition I’d Do Anything, and came in second place for the role of Nancy for a production of Oliver!, with Andrew Lloyd Webber praising her all the way through.

In her latest role in I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Jessie plays a young woman in a new relationship with Jake (Jessie Plemons), who is visiting Jake’s parents (Toni Colette and David Thewlis)  for the first time in their house in the country when a snow storm hits. Based on the internationally bestselling debut novel by Iain Reid, the film is written and directed by Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and is characteristically mind-bending. While the reviews have so far been assorted, there’s one constant; Jessie Buckley shines.

I’m Thinking of Ending Things is streaming on Netflix now.
