Champions, Sky Cinema

The Devil on Trial, Netflix
The Devil on Trial explores the first – and only – time “demonic possession” has officially been used as a defence in a U.S. murder trial. Including firsthand accounts of alleged devil possession and a shocking murder, this extraordinary story forces reflection on our fear of the unknown. A watch thoroughly befitting spooky season but not for the faint of heart (*cough, me).

For the very first time, Coleen Rooney reveals all as the documentary looks at the jaw-dropping libel case that gripped the nation in 2022. The incredible story will be told through exclusive access to the woman at the heart of it all, alongside interviews with her family and legal team involved in the resulting trial. I, for one, cannot get enough.

Hangmen, The Gaiety
Martin McDonagh’s Hangmen returns to the Gaiety stage following its hugely successful stint in Dublin and Galway earlier this year. Running from October 19 to November 4, this major production comes hot on the heels of the release of McDonagh’s award-winning feature film, The Banshees of Inisherin. Tickets start at €20 including booking fee are on sale now.

Foe, in cinemas nationwide
Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal star in Foe, a haunting exploration of marriage and identity set in an uncertain world. Hen and Junior farm a secluded piece of land that has been in Junior’s family for generations, but their quiet life is thrown into turmoil when an uninvited stranger (Aaron Pierre) shows up at their door with a startling proposal.

Killers of the Flower Moon, in cinemas nationwide
Leonardo DiCaprio plays war veteran Ernest Burkhart, who journeys to oil-rich Oklahoma to visit his domineering uncle William ‘King’ Hale (Robert De Niro). But with the older man grasping for the profits from the black gold that spews from the local Osage Indian reservation, Ernest finds his conscience torn to shreds as he is coerced into arson and murder. At three and a half hours long, Martin Scorsese’s latest project is quite the commitment… so be warned.

The Pigeon Tunnel, Apple TV+
Academy Award-winning documentarian Errol Morris pulls back the curtain on the storied life and career of former British spy David Cornwell – better known as John le Carré, author of such classic espionage novels as The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and The Constant Gardener. Set against the turbulent backdrop of the Cold War leading into present day, the film spans six decades as le Carré delivers his final and most candid interview, punctuated with rare archival footage and dramatised vignettes.
