Perched on the cliff of the Old Head of Kinsale, this house is for sale for €825,000

You won’t find more spectacular views than the ones from this home for sale in Kinsale.

Anyone who has made the drive down to the Old Head of Kinsale (only to be disappointed to find that the famous lighthouse is located on a private golf course with no public access), know that it is quite a drive. However, with these kinds of view, who would mind?

The most southerly located house on the famous Cork peninsula, this four-bedroom house, aptly named Oceanside, boasts the most unbelievable views, thanks to its somewhat precariously spot along the cliff edge.

Some might wonder if it’s a good long-term investment with the changing climate and coastal erosion, but then again, you only live once, it might as well be with a view.

On the market for €825,000, the house itself keeps up with its spectacular views with equally gorgeous interiors. The 210-square-metre house has clearly seen a lot of work, with modern finishes and numerous picture windows to draw the Cork coastline indoors.

Upon entryway, there’s a neat little storm shelter so you can shed wet gear and shoes if you don’t get a day quite as beautiful as this one. It leads into a larger hallway from which the house splits into living and sleeping quarters.

To the north-east, with views into Kinsale and Cobh harbours, is the open-plan living and kitchen area. With more window than wall, the living area overlooks the sea, a modern stove framed by an arched window. There’s also a sliding door to give you access to the seaward garden and a sheltered patio. It’s large enough to comfortably take two three-seater sofas and an eight-seater dining table

The contemporary kitchen has a more relaxed dining space in the form of a breakfast bar that faces on to the front, as well as a large island, so plenty of room for dinner prep and parties, as well as a wall of built-in storage.

Interestingly, this house has reserved the best of its many views for the bedrooms. One faces the front of the house and sits beside the family bathroom. Two sit in the centre of the home with sea views, one ensuite.

But the real showstopper has to be the main bedroom. It has a large ensuite, storage area and utility room and, looking onto the Old Head of Kinsale, an all-glass sunroom juts out into the back garden, maximising the house’s sunshine and views. There’s also a mezzanine study above, with even more storage that would make for a gorgeous walk-in-wardrobe if you were so inclined.

Outside, surrounded by water, there’s a sheltered little garden and a single-storey building, that’s currently used for as a photography studio. It has its own little roof terrace, ideal for soaking up the sun on a warm summer’s day.
