Busy putting plans in place ahead of their 10-date arena tour this May, it seems that yet more Pussycat Dolls drama was brewing behind the scenes and things recently came to a head after two of the band’s members spoke out against Nicole Scherzinger.
Surprised to learn that Nicole had supposedly cancelled all the band’s upcoming shows without their knowledge, both Jessica Sutta and Carmit Bachar claim that they first heard the news after Nicole had already posted about it on her personal Instagram account.
Addressing the situation in a joint statement shared to social media, both women said that they are “incredibly disappointed” by how things have panned out – confirming that they still have not been officially notified of the tour’s cancellation. “It seems as though it’s the end of a chapter to an incredible, life altering experience filled with some awesome memories that we will forever be grateful for.
“To the fans, we love you. Trust us, this is not the outcome we had hoped for. We wanted it as much as you because we appreciate you all so much and it hurts our hearts you had to wait so long for an answer, but unfortunately it’s out of our control.”
“We all had big dreams for this brand to expand especially creating the music so all our voices could be heard, which would be true female empowerment,” the duo continued. As long-time fans of the band will know, Nicole’s tendency to dominate lead vocals was often a bone of contention. It’s a well-documented fact that Scherzinger would often record entire albums by herself – she sang 95% of the group’s vocals, at her own admission!
Thanking the public for their unconditional support over the years, Carmit and Jess finished the statement by saying that they “will always honour the essence of what the true definition of being a Pussycat Doll is”. More shade? Probably, though it’s unclear what exactly they mean by that.
According to Sherzinger, the tour had to be cancelled due to “ever evolving circumstances surrounding the pandemic”. First announcing their reunion tour back in November 2019, plans were ultimately disrupted by the onset of severe lockdown restrictions around the world and try as they might to make it work, it just doesn’t seem feasible at the moment.
“I have invested a huge amount of time, creative energy and my own finances into bringing this project back to life,” Scherzinger wrote. “And while I’m naturally incredibly saddened by this decision, I am also very proud of what we were able to achieve in the short amount of time we had together before COVID.
“I can’t put into words the amount of love, admiration and gratitude I have for the other girls in the group, and the fans that have supported us. Stay safe and healthy,” she concluded.
Perhaps this was all just a case of miscommunication? Maybe, maybe not, but even Robin Antin, the group’s longtime manager, has said that Nicole’s announcement was rogue.
“Myself and all the girls have been waiting on the re-scheduled reunion tour dates for a long time, all of us working so hard to make it happen. We have been so excited to go out and connect with such incredible fans and give them what they truly deserve,” she wrote, apparently in response to Nicole’s own statement.
“All of us have made personally and financial sacrifices, but that’s what it takes to be a team player in a ‘BAND’. Let’s not forget there are five other members of this group who I care for deeply, who deserve to be heard… There are truths to this situation, I just hope one day they see the light.”
