The ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ trailer is here and it’s making people THIRSTY

Directed by Olivia Wilde, the trailer for the psychological thriller includes a particularly steamy scene between Harry Styles and Florence Pugh

It may be because we know an onset romance blossomed between director Olivia Wilde and lead Harry Styles. It may be because Don’t Worry Darling is the much-hyped sophomore film for Wilde’s first foray into feature directing, following on from the truly wonderful Booksmart (seriously, if you haven’t seen Booksmart what are you even doing? Get on the internet right this second and be prepared to immediately download the soundtrack and/or fall in love with Beanie Feldstein).

Or maybe it’s because post-pandemic we’re just so desperate for some good romancing, IRL or on-screen, that we were practically gasping as we watched the new trailer for  Don’t Worry Darling. And we haven’t even mentioned Florence Pugh in 1950s glam yet.

The psychological thriller is based on a short story about a seemingly perfect couple Alice and Jack (Pugh and Styles), who are living in a utopian Californian desert in the 1950s. However, all isn’t as it seems as Alice discovers her dreamy husband might just be too good to be true.

Specifically, it’s the steamy three-second kiss and the following sex on the kitchen table scene between Styles and Pugh in the trailer that’s got tongues wagging – literally. A glimpse of such chemistry not seen since Normal People graced our screens way back in early pandemic when Paul Mescal got us hot under the collar and then packed us off to live in seclusion for a few months.

You might remember that Styles was a late addition to the cast, with Pugh’s husband originally to be played by Shia LaBeouf. It was said that he was forced to leave production due to “scheduling conflicts” but Wilde confirmed that she fired LaBeouf because she didn’t like his attitude. She has since spoken of her “no assholes” policy on set, after spending years as an actress witnessing a distinctive hierarchy between cast and crew.

Also starring Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, KiKi Layne, Sydney Chandler, and Nick Kroll, Don’t Worry Darling is not due to hit cinemas until September 2022 so we’ll have to live off the too-short trailer for a while yet.
