The Golden Girls house is on sale for $2.9 million, and the kitchen is wonderfully retro
06th Aug 2020
Although the show was set in Miami, the house known as the home of Blanche, Rose, Dorothy, and Sophia from the hit 80s show is actually located in LA.
Fans of The Golden Girls will recognise the exterior of this property currently listed for sale in the Brentwood neighbourhood of LA. Although the show was set in Miami, the house that was used for exterior shots was not in fact located there.
In fact, these shots were only used in the first season, and for later seasons an exact replica of the house was built at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The interiors of the house were never used to film, so won’t be familiar to those who watched the show, but they will definitely appeal to buyers.
With a high-ceilinged rear living room that has a covered outdoor dining area, there is also a Japanese engawa, or wraparound porch that surrounds the home and leads into a veranda.
The kitchen is deliciously retro, and is original from when the house was built in 1955. Its green and turquoise cabinets with pale yellow walls actually feel fresh in a world where sleek white units and marble countertops seem the norm.
The house has four bedrooms and four bathrooms, and was built by award-winning Hawaiian architects Johnson and Perkins. It also has touches of Japanese influences, such as the previously mentioned engawa, as well as shoji screens.
It was commissioned by the original owners, who were the only people to have ever lived in this home. The house is on the market for $2.999 million, so fans willing to own a piece of its history will need deep pockets. Click through our gallery above for the full tour.
