A new era is about to begin for one of Ireland’s most renowned five-star hotels.
One of Ireland’s most renowned five-star hotels is set to unveil a stunning transformation.
The Killarney Park will begin an exciting new chapter on Friday, April 4, following the completion of the first phase of its ambitious refurbishment. Independent and family-owned, this iconic hotel is a landmark in the heart of Killarney, a town celebrated for its rich heritage and breathtaking landscapes.
As a proud member of Leading Hotels of the World®, the hotel is renowned for its dedication to world-class hospitality, seamlessly blending tradition with innovation and this restoration aims to continue reflecting that.
The first phase of the hotel’s transformation has seen a complete reimagining of its 69 guest rooms and suites, alongside an extensive enhancement of its grounds and gardens. Designed to honour the hotel’s storied past while embracing contemporary luxury and sustainability, the refurbishment reflects a deep commitment to providing an authentic Irish hospitality experience.
Inspired by natural beauty
With Killarney drawing thousands of national and international visitors each year, the goal is to offer guests a refined, immersive retreat that pays homage to the natural beauty and cultural richness of the region.
“For our family, scheduling the enhancement programme in two phases was crucial to ensure meticulous execution, grounded in sustainability, while delivering an authentic Irish hotel guest experience,” said Marcus Treacy, managing director.
“By integrating Killarney’s natural beauty, local craftsmanship, and sustainable practices into the design, the refurbishment and rebranding create a uniquely Irish luxury experience. Stage two, commencing in early 2026, will transform the spa, introduce a sophisticated cocktail bar, and enhance the dining offering.”
From April, guests will be welcomed into thoughtfully redesigned guest rooms and suites, created in collaboration with the renowned Irish firm McCauley Daye O’Connell Architects. Inspired by the rich heritage and dramatic landscapes of Kerry, the interiors showcase soft, nature-inspired hues, ensuring a harmonious and tranquil ambiance. Locally sourced materials, including bespoke joinery handcrafted just 30 minutes from the hotel, maintain a strong connection to the region, reinforcing the hotel’s dedication to supporting local artisans.
Adding to the hotel’s unique character, the team unearthed two beautifully preserved watercolours in the National Gallery of Ireland, each depicting the serene beauty of Killarney’s famous lakes. These artworks have been rendered as scenic wallpaper in select suites, offering guests an immersive visual experience that mirrors the spectacular landscapes just beyond their windows.
Sustainability at the forefront
Every aspect of the renovation has been carefully considered, with a keen focus on guest experience and sustainability.
“Hospitality is our family legacy, carried through generations,” says Marcus Treacy. “Our independence allows us to craft curated experiences that truly reflect the essence of Kerry. Killarney’s wild beauty transforms with the seasons, revealing treasures that should be savoured. We want our guests to be fully present in the moment; giving back time is invaluable.”
With sustainability at the heart of its transformation, the hotel has partnered with premium eco-conscious suppliers to elevate the in-room experience. Guests will find Wildsmith amenities in every bathroom – a brand renowned for its commitment to biodynamic farming, eco-friendly packaging and ethical sourcing. The hotel’s sustainability efforts extend beyond the rooms, with significant initiatives aimed at reducing food waste, managing energy and water consumption, and investing in alternative energy solutions.
Advanced room technology will help cut carbon emissions and optimise energy efficiency, while a strong commitment to eliminating single-use plastics and prioritising locally sourced produce ensures a reduced environmental footprint.
So, as the hotel embarks on this next chapter, it reaffirms its dedication to delivering an exceptional, world-class experience – one that celebrates its strong heritage and the natural beauty of its surroundings, all the while embracing the future of hospitality.
Time is truly made richer with each moment spent at The Killarney Park.
