The Simpsons has ‘predicted’ an apocalypse following the election

The Simpsons has ‘predicted’ an apocalypse following the election

In the Halloween episode of The Simpsons on Sunday night, Homer forgot to vote and caused the apocalypse

It’s a testament to the insanity of the past four years that The Simpsons is now considered to be some sort of predictor of the future.

They’re certainly more accurate than your horoscope, having predicted the ending of Game of Thrones in 2017, the election of Donald Trump in 2000, the future of autocorrect in 1994, smartwatches in 1995 and a whole lot of other madness, from the ebola virus to Olympic victories to Nobel Prize winners.

In the 31st annual Simpsons Halloween Treehouse of Horror special, The Simpsons take a frightening look at the 2020 election and urge the American public to vote.

Homer is relaxing at home when Marge calls him from the voting line.

“Homer, get down here. Your vote for president has never been more important,” Marge tells Homer. He arrives at the polling station, and while hesitating over who to vote for, Lisa asks him, “how could you forget everything that’s happened the last four years?” Multiple headlines from the Trump presidency appear on the screen, including “put children in cages,” “called Mexicans rapists”, “can’t get wife to hold hand”, “called Tim Cook ‘Tim Apple'”, “said Megyn Kelly had “blood coming out of her wherever”‘, “paid $750 in taxes” and “said to swallow bleach.”

Homer goes to cast his vote, saying, “who are you going to make fun of now, late-night comics?” Except it was all a dream, and he wakes up to Marge giving out to him for not voting. “Hey, how bad could it be?” says Homer.

Cut to Inauguration Day, January 20, 2021.

Homer sits on the roof in armour, holding a gun, while the apocalypse ravages Springfield, which burns around him in ruins as robots roam the streets. Four skeleton horsemen fly through the sky, holding banners that say “Pestilence”, “Famine” and “War”.

Well then. Let’s hope this is one prediction The Simpsons gets wrong.
