The ‘Succession’ finale and a White House drama with Woody Harrelson – what to watch this week

From the last-ever episode of Succession to the first romantic comedy from a major studio about two gay men falling in love and a White House drama starring Woody Harrelson, here's your weekly entertainment round-up.

Monday, May 29

Succession, Sky

The final-ever episode of Succession (sob) aired in the US last night which means that Irish audiences will be able to catch up on the action on Sky today. I haven’t watched it yet so I refuse to do any more digging into what happened for fear of spoilers… let’s regroup this time tomorrow to discuss post-haste.

Tuesday, May 30

The Kardashians, Disney+

Season 3 of The Kardashians landed on Disney+ just before the weekend and first impressions? It’s going to be good. Giving fans a closer look at the day-to-day lives of our favourite sisters (and momager), new episodes cover everything from motherhood to co-parenting, dating and the pressures of running billion-dollar empires. It’s chewing gum for the eyes and I can’t look away…

Wednesday, May 31

White House Plumbers, Sky Atlantic

A new five-part limited series coming to Sky Atlantic, White House Plumbers imagines the behind-the-scenes story of how Nixon’s political saboteurs, E. Howard Hunt (Woody Harrelson) and g. Gordon Liddy (Justin Theroux) accidentally toppled the presidency they were fiercely trying to protect… and their families along with it. This satirical drama begins in 1971 when the White House hires Hunt and Liddy, former CIA and FBI respectively, to investigate the Pentagon Papers Leak.

Thursday, June 01

Bros, Sky Cinema

The first romantic comedy from a major studio about two gay men maybe, possibly, probably, stumbling towards love. Maybe. They’re both very busy. Brought to you by the ferocious comic mind of Billy Eichner and the hitmaking brilliance of filmmakers Nicholas Stoller and Judd Apatow, comes Bros, a smart, swoony and heartfelt comedy about how hard it is to find another tolerable human being to go through life with.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, in cinemas nationwide

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was *the* must-see animation of 2018, even drawing in the too-cool teens who thought they’d outgrown the web-slinger with its moody graphic novel vibe. Now, the first of three planned sequels dives deeper into the Multiverse, with Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) meeting an out-there cast of alternate Spider-Men that includes punk-rock and accident-prone wall crawlers voiced by Daniel Kaluuya and Oscar Isaac. Catch it in cinemas from today.

Saturday, June 03

Deadloch, Amazon Prime Video

When a local man turns up dead on the beach, two vastly different detectives are thrown together to solve the case, fastidious local senior sergeant Dulcie Collins (Kate Box) and a rough-as-guts blow-in from Darwin, senior investigator Eddie Redcliffe (Madeleine Sami) along with their overeager junior constable Abby (Nina Oyama). As the town prepares to launch their annual arts, food, and culture event—Winter Feastival—the trio must put their differences aside and work together to find the killer.

Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets, Amazon Prime Video

Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets is a limited docuseries exposing the truth beneath the wholesome Americana surface of reality tv’s favourite mega-family, The Duggars, and the radical organisation behind them: The Institute in Basic Life Principles. As details of the family and their scandals unfold, the public begin to realise that they’re part of an insidious, much larger threat already in motion, with democracy itself in peril.
