This dreamy Victorian home in Co Meath (with converted church) is on the market for €1.5 million

This dreamy Victorian home in Co Meath (with converted church) is on the market for €1.5 million

A former parochial house, its current owners have decorated it with a perfect laid-back charm.

College Hill House, situated around five kilometres from Slane in Co Meath, is a former parochial house built around 1826. It still has traces of its past life, including a former church that is now a grand living room with a high ceiling and arched windows.

As well as five bedrooms in the main house, it also has a mews that provides a further four bedrooms. The home sits at the end of a long, tree-lined driveway, and you enter the house into a porch full of lush plants. The main entrance hall has the original pitch pine flooring and leads to a drawing room on the left with dual aspect sash windows, and a study on the right.

To the back of the house sits the kitchen, off which sits an old Sacristy which has been repurposed as a laundry room. A timber conservatory provides a peaceful place to admire the garden, with a hand-painted mural blending the indoors and outdoors. There is a dining room with period features, while the former church has been converted into a showstopping living room.

It retains many of its original features, including an open floor plan, a marble wall, arched windows, and a vaulted ceiling. This room has a parquet floor that was sourced from a church in Belfast, another nod to its previous use.

Upstairs, the bedrooms are all generously sized, each named after a flower and all with their own ensuites. The renovated coach house provides plenty of space for guests to stay, while the four additional bedrooms in this building following the trend of being named after flowers.

Outside, the 9 acres of grounds have been beautifully maintained, and comprise mature, landscaped gardens, a greenhouse, a man-made lake, a lawn tennis court, as well as paddocks.
