With custom pieces, natural materials, and considered layouts, this home feels welcoming yet peaceful.

A new-build property on a country estate, this home was in many ways a blank slate for Anam Design Studio to work with. As founder, Liz Huges explains, “Our brief was to design a durable, stylish interior for a busy family home to accommodate the parents along with four children of widely varying ages, creating an environment that needs to be able to roll with the punches for a number of years.”

This project wasn’t just restricted to furniture and accessories – the studio worked to create a cohesive space through floor and wall finishes, the kitchen design, bathrooms, and layouts, including bespoke joinery and furniture.

One of the most striking aspects of this home is how successful the sense of flow is throughout. This was achieved through a considered overall approach. “We employed a subtle mix of neutral and warm colour tones in the design,” Liz explains. “We proposed a polished concrete floor with exposed aggregate on the ground floor, and pale oak floorboards on the upper levels, while hand-painted lime paint on the walls and ceiling throughout the house gives added warmth and texture.”

Natural materials such as stone and timber are also incorporated into rooms throughout the home, layered with soft, textured upholstery fabrics. “This creates a simple, natural and inviting interior.”

Custom furniture not only created pieces that are unique, but ones that suit the spaces perfectly. “We designed a bespoke travertine vanity with Tuscan Stone & Bathrooms in the visitor WC, which we absolutely love,” Liz says.

“This was carved from a single block and is simply exquisite. We also designed a custom oak dining table with Wabi Sabi. They delivered a simple Anam design and managed to stain the timber to match perfectly with the Mauro dining chairs we selected from Established & Sons.”

One space that Liz is particularly proud of is the main bedroom. “This was a unique Anam design. It includes a bespoke timber bed with integrated side tables, and walk-in wardrobes all in a stained oak finish and delivered beautifully by joiner Peter McQuaid.”

The result is a serene, streamlined home, where different spaces feel distinct, yet in conversation with each other.
