Vogue Williams’ Howth home is a perfect pastel dream

The multi-hyphenate may live a busy life in London, but her Howth home is the perfect retreat. She opted for a pastel colour palette to keep the mood calm, but still with plenty of colour.
When Vogue Williams first stepped foot in this Howth house, it wasn’t as someone looking for a new home, but simply to visit a friend. “My friend was showing me around, and I said to him, ‘This is my dream house, I’m going to own it one day.’” The multi-hyphenate may live in London with husband, Spencer Matthews and children Theodore, Gigi and Otto, but likes to have a Dublin base to retreat from hectic London life.
“It’s really important for me to have a great base here for the kids that they really love,” she explains. “I go home to Dublin for the calm and relaxation, and to catch up with friends. Obviously, I work from there as well, but I just wanted a relaxing home to go back to, because London can be quite mad at times.”
Vogue was true to her word, and the home with its expansive windows and bright spaces is now hers. “I just wanted it from the moment I set my eyes on it. I loved that it was private. I loved the way it was built. It was perfect for a family, and everything was thought of.”
And while she had fallen in love with the space, its blank walls provided the perfect opportunity to add her own personality, and she enlisted interior designer Geri O’Toole of Geri Designs, who she had worked with previously in her last home. This existing relationship meant the design process was very smooth.
“We felt we already had a good understanding of Vogue’s taste and her style,” Geri explains. “It’s great to work with her, because she knows immediately what she likes and what she doesn’t like. She’s very open to ideas and creativity, and she has a lot of her own ideas as well.”
While Vogue wanted to add colour and personality to the home’s white walls, she didn’t want to lose its serene mood that she had fallen in love with. “I wanted to create something slightly different, but very calming. My home in London is very bright, with lots of colours, and I wanted my Dublin home to be relaxing and chilled with muted tones,” she explains. “I was once a white and grey girl and now I can’t get enough of colour.”
The result is a space full of soft shades, gentle curves, and playful details that create a relaxed yet welcoming mood, without compromising on the practical details needed for a young family. In the living space, curved sofas in a pale pink are complemented by arched bookcases designed by Geri’s team and built by Con Brouder.
“It’s the living room, but the kids are up there a lot, so Vogue wanted somewhere that they can hang out and play that’s very near them if they’re in the kitchen,” Geri explains. “So we made these bookcases that look lovely and dressed up, but underneath, behind the doors, there’s actually plenty of storage. It’s perfect to put away the toys and still have a grown-up space in the evening time.” Brass handles from Armac Martin further echo the curves in this space, while the shelves above provide a place to display favourite pieces. Painted in Rosemary Leaf by Dulux Heritage, they add depth and character.
