IMAGE.ie interiors columnist Vogue Williams on how to transform your interiors with beautiful flooring and statement rugs.
I could not decide what to write my column on this month because I wanted to write about three different things but felt like they all deserved their moment. After much deliberation I settled on flooring, we all have it and I am currently knee deep in rug choices for my house at home in Ireland so wanted to share.
A good solid wooden floor is long lasting and so beautiful, my personal preference is a wide long plank.
I had the most beautiful flooring in my old house that was done by Matt Britton which I loved. A lot of people go for a stunning parquet floor and although I know they look amazing I always worry that a trend will change and I want flooring to last a lifetime!
My new place has beautiful floors but they are all in need of a rug and to say I have gone deep in the search for a stunning rug is an understatement! I couldn’t find any I loved for that space online so I chose my own from Matt Britton again as they match the rooms perfectly, which I will show you when they are down. As much as I love a wooden floor I think having carpet under your feet when you get out of bed is cosy.
Dunelm Milo Scallop Pink And Yellow Wool Rug, €92
I did however find some great carpets online for my place in London. I get served up a lot of ads on Insta from a company called Ruggable and I decided to bite the bullet and buy one to see how they were. They do a lot of designer collabs, one I absolutely adored was there one with Iris Apfel and another with Jonathan Adler. The thing about these rugs is that you can take off the top and wash it in the machine which is a total winner with kids.
I adore a really different statement rug, I found these on Dunelm and thought they were really gorgeous. The scalloped detail on the edge is really cool but the cream colour wouldn’t last a day in my house!
