Louis Wain is known as a man who drew cats. A talented, ambidextrous artist, he is brought to life in an extraordinary true story, with the eccentric Wain played by Benedict Cumberbatch. We spoke to costume designer Michael O’Connor about bringing his ‘cat costumes’ as he calls them to life in the new film, The Electrical Life of Louis Wain.

“I thought the script was fantastic. And I went to meet [director] Will Sharpe whose work I was a fan of and I said, ‘this is going to be exciting,’’ he said, admitting he didn’t know much about Wain prior to his work on the film. “I recognised the pictures once they were in front of me, and started referencing them for the meeting with Will, but I didn’t know much about Louis at all...
