5 gorgeous cottages in West Cork under €200,000 that are ready to move into

Whether you’re into quaint and crumbly or modern and bright, there is a stunning collection of cottages for sale in West Cork that are in turnkey condition.

Anyone lucky enough to have travelled to or lived in West Cork knows it’s wild and wonderful beauties. Lusher than the rocky wilderness of the Burren or mountainous marshes of Connemara, it’s a place of breathtaking vistas, quaint and colourful towns and plenty of creative minds. Who wouldn’t want to live there?

It’s also undoubtedly an expensive place to buy. According the April 2020 report from the National Statistics Office, Kinsale is the most expensive Eircode to buy outside of Dublin, Bray and Greystones, with a median house price of €345,000.

However, there are still some cracking homes to be snapped up for well below this. Here is just a taste of the cosy cottages for under €200,000 that are ready to move into.

The Orchard Farmhouse, Schull
€195,000

This three-bedroom stone cottage has some spectacular views overlooking the Mizen peninsula. Just four kilometres from the bustling town of Schull, it’s been extensively restored and modernised in recent years, adding oil-fired heating and a stove to the main living room.

Also on the ground floor is a bright kitchen to the rear lit by skylights in a double-height space, a utility, bathroom and a study. Upstairs are three bedrooms and another bathroom.

Located on 0.75 acres of land it still retains some of the fruiting trees in its historic orchard, as well as a number of outhouses ripe for conversion.

Mill Cottage, Rosscarbery
€195,000

Located in a sheltered corner of Rosscarbey Bay, this waterside fisherman’s cottage has two bedrooms and has recently been completely updated, making it surprisingly bright and airy for a stone cottage.

Part of a three-house terrace built in the 19th century, it’s only a short walk from Rosscarbery town.

The Sycamores, Skibbereen
€180,000

This home has clearly been well-loved and well-lived in, with a beautiful mature garden and all the necessities for making a house a home.

Located on the Skibbereen-Bantry Road, it has three bedrooms and is simply brimming with character and lots of original features including exposed beams, thick stone walls, a huge fireplace and a bright kitchen in the lean-to. It also has a number of attached stone outhouses that could be incorporated into the house.

Grangemore, Timoleague
€185,000

It’s unclear whether this two-storey farmhouse is a new build or a restoration but either way, it’s as good as new by the looks of things. It’s set back from the road between Timoleague and Clonakilty in a secluded little spot at the end of a long private drive. The house has three bedrooms as well as a number of outhouses nearby awaiting some loving care.

Finishing touches, kitchen and flooring have yet to be added so this will need to be considered in your budget but it also means you can put your own spin on things

Baane Cottage, Union Hall
€195,000

Just one mile from Carrigillihy Strand, this extended end-of-terrace farmhouse is charming with timber beam ceilings, tiled floors and four roomy bedrooms.

On the ground floor is the kitchen, living room, dining room, study and bathroom, while upstairs the bedrooms are nestled into the vaulted timber-clad roof. Outside, a terraced garden sits to the right while the front of the house looks onto a small ruin of a stone cottage opposite.
