Welcome Taurus season, from April 20th to May 21st!
Aesop teaches that slow and steady wins the race. Of course, his famous fable refers to a tortoise and hare, but, for those who love astrology, this moral could just as easily describe the relationship between Taurus (which sounds quite like tortoise, interestingly) and Aries (which has a phonetic hint of the hare to it). Let’s explore.
We just left H-aries season. It’s a hard-charging time, where we can find ourselves initially agog but then quickly indifferent toward projects. There’s no stamina to the Ram. It rushes into the world, dragging us with it, and then ends up spent and asleep on life’s roadside.
Taurus is a different beast altogether. Stamina is its middle name. Part of this derives from the fact that it’s a fixed sign. Like the tortoise, Taurus moves toward an end with an almost stubborn insistence. To align with this season, then, we need to accept the grunt work that comes with any progress toward success. Do not think about big visionary schemes, but rather put in hard yards.
Because we have a lot of fixed energy in the air, be aware that we can come across as too obstinate with others. Flexibility is not the Bull’s forte. If you find yourself sticking to points or opinions in an argument, long after the moment has passed, try to let go. In other words, this is a great month for fixating on a goal, but it can be a tough one for easy conversations (Gemini season, next month, is much better for that).
In terms of its element, Taurus is an earth sign. Another key way to align with Taurus energy, then: think about engaging in grounded activities that speak to security, home, and nature. A project around the house, working in the garden or mending a wall, stone by onerous stone: these are all perfect Taurus endeavours.
This isn’t to suggest that we should view Taurus as a hum-drum season, despite its slow and steady energy. It’s ruled by ritzy Venus, planet of love and desire. There’s a sensuality to the Bull, therefore, an earthiness in that word’s more carnal connotations. That could mean something like long evenings of stamina, indulgence, and decadence with a romantic partner. Indeed, as Spring ripens, so, too, does the Bull’s vegetable love, growing vast as empires.
Now, while last month was flush with major transits, this one is more low-key, like Taurus itself. To wit:
Taurus season dates of note
Chatty Mercury goes retrograde in Taurus on April 21st until the 15th of May. Mercury retrogrades are wonky transits, where communications slow down or get delayed. Seeing that this Mercury retro occurs in molasses Taurus, prepare for missives, contracts, and words to move with extra languor along information superhighways. You should basically start writing your Christmas cards now, if you want them to get them to loved ones on time.
We have a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio on May 5th. Sounds ominous. This is basically like having Halloween early. Your house may feel haunted on this date. And your heart may be filled with darker, Scorpionic desires for witchcraft. It’s a good night for a seance. Just don’t cast any hexes.
On May 7th, lovely Venus enters maternal Cancer. This will be the sweetest day of Taurus season, where you could be feeling extra sentimental. Call up your Mum and reminisce.
Another pretty great day: May 16th. Lucky Jupiter, planet of plenty, enters Taurus. The pesky Mercury retrograde will have just ended, and Jupiter will be unencumbered. Head down to the race tracks and bet a bit of money on a horse or two. If you’re wary of gambling, celebrate with a big dinner amongst friends. Jupiter is all about expanding hearts and waistlines with attitudes and practices of abundance.
Last, we have a New Moon in Taurus on May 19th, where it is extra strong and exalted. The Moon is changeable, but the Bull provides a sense of grounding, and fixed-earth security to it. Trust that decisions made from this place won’t be as twitchy and mad as a March Hare.
