Dr. Niamh Daly is a consultant and senior lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Rotunda and the RCSI. She speaks candidly to Amanda Cassidy about the challenges maternity hospitals face during the pandemic and the heartbreak that comes with the job.

The roads are eerily empty as Dr. Niamh Daly drives home to her family after yet another long shift. She’s been on her feet all day for multiple clinics, gynecology appointments, often with elderly, more vulnerable patients. She’s spent the morning on surgeries, bedside tutorials with her students, and telemedicine calls. She ended it sitting quietly with a young woman who’d just been told that the scan had failed to pick up her baby’s heartbeat....
