The astrology for August is much more low-key than last month’s, which was rather mental. In fact, we only have a few transits of note this August. In other words, the month is sparse, like a remote General Store somewhere on the coast of Galway that only gets a few customers per day. Let’s see what’s coming up nonetheless.
We have a Leo New Moon on August 4. New Moons are for setting intentions for the next two weeks (which is to say, during the waxing phase of the lunar cycle). This New Moon should involve intentions around Leo’s need for attention: attracting co-workers to your sustainability club at work; raising awareness for a social cause; abasing yourself in the newest Tik-Tok challenge.
On the next day (August 5), a pesky Mercury retrograde enters the fray. It lasts all month until August 28. A retrograde is a transit during which a planet appears to be moving backward in the sky relative to us on Earth. When retrogrades occur, that planet’s influence goes wonky. During a Venus retro, for example, romance gets weird–we might fight or break up or sulk rather than shine. .
During a Mercury retrograde, themes related to that planet (i.e., communication, cargo, contracts, conveyances) can get complicated. Misunderstandings, delays, lost luggage: these are all classic Mercury retrograde. That’s not to say that these kinds of things aren’t always happening—they just get intensified during these transits. So, prepare to lose your luggage, basically, at some point this month.
Finally, an awkward Full Moon in Aquarius on the 19. Perhaps our most aloof and unemotive sign, Aquarius is not a place our emotional Moon does well in. This is a relatively brief transit that nonetheless might have you feeling all alien inside. That said, this is a Moon that betokens more emotional clarity or objectivity toward work, romance, and friends.

I’m going to low-key put it out there that Leos tend to be the exhibitionists of the Zodiac.
