Dad sandals, trek sandals, thong sandals and more – meet the trending sandals of summer to shop now.
Soon, there will come a day when you’re going to want to wear a shoe other than your Ugg slippers.
Now that we’ve globally made a life-long commitment to elasticated waists, shoes are going in a similar, practical direction. Maybe even too practical – the trending sandal styles of summer remain shoes your Dad once owned. There’s even hiking sandals, so whether we spend this summer going nowhere or everywhere, all of these shoes are built for comfort.
Birkenstocks
@pernilleteisbaek
Worn by Instagram models and Dads alike, the Birkenstock continues to lead the sandal trends, thanks to a number of cool designer collaborations that elevated them from ugly, functional and arch-supporting to this summer’s most wanted shoe. The newest collaboration with Manolo Blahnik looks just as good with your sweatpants as they do with your swimsuit.
Dad sandals
@karissasparke
Variations of Chanel’s chunky 90s-Dad-at-Disneyland continue to appear in bright colourways, padded leather and denim takes. They are loungewear in a shoe, can toughen up summery dresses and skirts and are asking to be worn with socks.
Thong sandals
@monikh
After The Row’s sell-out Ginza sandal, the thong sandal continues to reign. Now filtered down to the high street, it’s like the cheap sandal you wore on your holidays when you were 14, and looks fantastic with everything.
Trek sandals
@heartzeena
Just what you wanted in your summer sandal I’d bet, to comfortably walk your 10,000 steps a day. Ugly though they are, they come in lots of gorgeous vibrant shades and can toughen up a ditzy floral midi or throw-on dress.
Chunky sandals
@lucywilliams02
Towering flatform sandals, the shoes of ’90s dreams and Lizzie McGuire’s wardrobe are back – fish out your bandana and rhinestoned vests.
Fisherman sandals
Watch out for caged, fisherman sandals, coming soon to an Instagram feed near you. Sorry, I don’t make the fashion rules.
