Spring is a time for change. Whether it’s a new lipstick or a complete wardrobe overhaul, now is the perfect time to start things afresh. Our favourite thing to do this season is update is our hair. With temperatures (finally) on the up, it’s a good time to chop off our lengthy tresses in favour of a short, manageable lob. Or, why not go all out and switch up your colour? If a new shade is on the cards, three of Ireland’s top colourists (and nominees in this year’s IMAGE Business of Beauty Awards) have some expert colouring tips for you.
It’s all about finding a colourist who understands your needs. “Find a hairdresser you can click with – someone that gets to know you, and you them. You need a hairdresser that knows how far you can go for that change. For some, an inch off the length and a slight shade darker will be just what they need, but for others, it’s looking like a completely different person. A hairdresser that gets you will understand which is your change.”
It’s important to decide what colours suit you best. “Move with the seasons to suit your skin tone and always choose colours that bring out your eyes. To protect the condition of your hair, have your colourist use lightened areas to change tone, without always re-lightening.”
Figure out exactly what you want to achieve before you arrive at the salon. “The preparation of the canvas you have in the chair is vital to achieving the best results. It’s important to understand where you are and where you want to be.”
