5 Beautiful Blushers For Your Beauty Bag

by Jennifer McShane
27th Sep 2015

With the winter chill rapidly approaching, we’ve been obediently updating our beauty bags to prepare our skin for the onslaught of unpredictable Irish weather that will see us through Christmas. Much like using the correct moisturiser and updating your foundation accordingly, you’ll find yourself opting for a little extra glow on your cheeks because let’s face it, we may not see the sun for the next five months (sorry to be so depressing). On a cheerier note, this is where your favourite blusher can step in. Whether you decide to opt for a powder or cream blush, using either on your face will be necessary as you’ll be paler during the weeks of winter and we presume you won’t want to go?for the?Casper look. Even a dash of blush can instantly revive your face’so never underestimate the power of a good one. The rose colours look especially beautiful on those blessed with Celtic skin, but?ultimately they’suit everyone.

We’ve rounded up a few of our favourite blushers that have seen us through many-a-month of arctic conditions:

NARS Powder Blush

NARS Powder Blush in ‘Deep Throat’, €30

NARS powder blusher is widely known amongst the masses as a cult product. They have three major best-selling shades: Orgasm, Super Orgasm and Deep Throat. The first two are peachy-pinks with a hint of glitter thrown in (Super Orgasm) and Deep Throat is a pink dusk with faint shimmer. Yours truly has been using all three shades for years and has nothing but good things to say about each. These are highly pigmented so one block should last a year or two before you need to replace it.

MAC Powder Blush?

MAC Powder Blush in ‘Fever’, €24 – €28

It’s safe to say that most of us have at least one favourite MAC blush we turn to in times of strife. You can opt for a wide range of both cream or powder choices and they have virtually any shade you need. Just be warned, the powders break quite easily if you drop them and are very pigmented so a little goes a long way when you come to apply it. A light hand works best for the application, likewise with their creams. Much like their foundation, some of the darker shades can oxidise slightly (yes, even though it is blusher) so take care to try the shade before you buy.

Illamasqua Powder Blush

Illamasqua Powder Blush in ‘Tremble,’ €30.95

Illamasqua sadly closed its doors on Irish shores, but thankfully you can still buy all their products online. Their blushers are real gems; particularly the powdered variety. They stay on all day, yet have a really natural and buildable coverage. Don’t be put off by the fact that the products are often used for shoots and stage productions and the like, as the blusher is one of the most natural I’ve ever worn. Find a shade you love (Tremble?is a personal favourite) and you’ll be hooked.

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Compacts, €42.50

These are quite simply the stuff of which dream blusher products are made. The blocks contain five strips of colour each and when used in a single blusher brush stroke, your cheeks become infused with a dewy glow. There are currently five varieties of the bricks available and each is different; two have a more bronzed tone, one a more peach and the others are pink in tone. All are simply gorgeous on. These are lightly pigmented with plenty of shimmer so if you want a more prominent colour on your cheeks, feel free to build up to your heart’s content.

Benefit Powder Blush In ‘Dandelion’

Benefit Powder Blush In ‘Dandelion,’ €34

The Dandelion shade is a Benefit bestseller and favoured for its dusty pink hue, but they have a wide range of shade choices available. While some powder blushers can be known to oxidise slightly when applied (some Estee Lauder and MAC shades have turned darker or gained an orange tint for me in the past), you won’t have to worry about this with Benefit as it stays a rosy pink throughout the day. Again, this one stays put without fading and glides on looking really natural. Dust on the apples of your cheeks for a gorgeous flushed effect.

This isn’t an exhaustive list, but rather a few of our blushers of choice. Have you a favourite blush that didn’t make?it? Tell us in the comments.
