5 Easy Ways To Transition Your Make-Up For Autumn/Winter

One of the best things about the new season is getting to switch up our make-up. Our skin has different needs; the textures and rich colour palettes made for the autumnal weather – and for wearing ourselves. It seems silly not to embrace them. Bearing this in mind, we’re not suggesting you have to do away with your tried-and-tested routine completely, rather that you make small, simple changes that will ensure you’re AW ready in the beauty department:

Choose A Base That Will Hydrate:

Hydration is a primary concern amid the changing weather. From the cold wind and rain straight into heat-infused offices, our skin can be a shadow of its former self. Go for a fluid that’s water based and alongside a good moisturiser, your skin will remain flake free. My never-failed-me hydrating foundation is always Chanel VITALUMI?RE AQUA (in 12 Beige Ros?, €45).?This is an ultra-light, water-based foundation that glides onto the skin and doesn’t accentuate?any pores or fine lines. Perfect?for AW.

Go For Autumnal?Colours – Just Be Sure They Suit Your Skin Type:

The quickest and easiest way to embrace all things with a berry hue to simply swap your pink-toned gloss for something a shade or two darker, just remember to keep your skin type in mind.?For skin tones with a pink base, go for pinker deep plum and berry shades. For warmer, more yellow-toned skins, try a dark colour with brown or orange tones to them. Neutral skin tones suit either. Remember to make your lipstick the star and keep eye makeup to a minimum. The lipstick we’re currently coveting is from Victoria Beckham’s newest Estee Lauder Collection: The Black Cassis lipstick (?46) is the universally flattering burgundy red of your winter dreams and it’s available in Brown Thomas now. Smokey eyes also work a treat this time of year but to make yours really stand out, pair with a soft, neutral lip.

Fake That Outer Glow:

There’ll be no sunshine to help us with that dewy?glow but we still want a healthy shimmer, so faking it till you make it is always the best idea. Buff a highlighter onto the apples of your cheeks – or anywhere you want a bit of radiance – and you’re all set. Benefit’s new Dandelion Twinkle power?(?34) is a delicate strobing powder is formulated with a special technology for a sheer, feather light texture that instantly catches the light.

Be Mindful Of Textures:

Adding texture to the face can really elevate your skin. It’s as simple as not using products of the same texture – i.e, a matte-on-matte look. So, if you are going for a matte foundation, add some gloss?to your eyes?or lips whereas if you are going for highlighted skin, go for a matte lip.

Don’t Forget The Rest:

Just as your face requires deeper hydration for the new season, so does your body. Switch your lightweight lotions for one with a thicker, more potent texture. A firm favourite is always Kiehl’s Creme de Corps (?31 for 250ml) which gives the skin a huge burst of moisture while keeping it soft and supple.
