My Day in Beauty with Louise McSharry: “It’s a total winner and costs almost nothing.”

My Day in Beauty with Louise McSharry: “It’s a total winner and costs almost nothing.”

2FM DJ Louise McSharry is beauty goals. Her (currently bright peach) hair is always changing colour, her brows are fluffy and brush-up-able (that’s a word) and her skin is that of a young teen. I was only dying to know what her beauty routine is like so I can copy it to the letter.

“My daily routine varies a lot because of my changeable schedule,” says Louise. “If I’m only hanging out with my two-year-old and going in to 2fm, I generally go makeup free, or I might throw on my ‘bare minimum’ makeup (brow mascara, mascara, gel blusher and lip balm). On a day when I have meetings or an event, things are amped up a little more. Generally though, I don’t get a chance to even wash my face until I’ve dropped Sam off at créche. My night cream really gets a good innings.”

LOUISE’S SKIN PICKS

Cleanser – Pestle and Mortar Erase and Renew
Toner – I don’t always tone but when I do I like The Body Shop Ginseng and Rice Clarifying Milky Toner
Moisturiser – Kiehls Super Multicorrective Cream
Serum – The Ordinary Buffet
Eye cream – Ole Henriksen Banana Bright Eye Cream
Mask – Lacura Charcoal Mud Mask
Exfoliant – Biologique Recherche P50

The Ordinary Buffet, €14.80

“I love the Lacura Charcoal Mud Mask because it leaves my skin feeling refreshed and squeaky clean. Also the price tag is very appealing! P50 is at the other end of the price tag scale, but I love that it’s effective, but gentle enough to use every day.”

Aldi Lacura Charcoal Mud Mask, €7.99

LOUISE’S TOP SKIN TIP

“I think using a hot face cloth to clean my face every night is the best thing I’ve done for it. I bought a load of face cloths and just throw them in the wash after I use them so I don’t have to worry about bacteria. The face cloth really effectively cleanses the face, but also sloughs off dead skin. It’s a total winner, and costs almost nothing.”

LOUISE’S MAKEUP PICKS

Foundation – YSL Touche Éclat
CC Cream – It Cosmetics Illuminating CC Cream
Mascara – YSL Effet Faux Cils
Liner – Rimmel Glam Eyes
Palette/eyeshadow – BPerfect Carnival Palette
Powder – Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder
Brushes – Real Techniques
Lipstick – Nars Audacious
Blush – Glossier Cloud Paint

Glossier Cloud Paint, €18

“I love the It Cosmetics CC Cream because it makes your skin look great but also has skincare benefits so I kind of feel like I’m doing myself a favour by wearing it. The BPerfect Carnival Palette is my current MVP because the shadows are a beautiful formulation – really highly pigmented and they blend like a dream.”

LOUISE’S TOP MAKEUP TIP

“If applying foundation with a brush, use a very gentle, whispery touch. Aggressive application results in uneven application and sometimes means you’re taking the product off as you’re putting it on. Also, don’t be afraid of blusher.”

LOUISE’S HAIR PICKS

Shampoo – Charles Worthington Colourplex Ultraviolet Toning Shampoo
Conditioner – Smartbond 3
Mask – Joico K-Pak Reconstructor
Hairspray – TIGI Bed Head Masterpiece
Texture spray – Oribé Dry Texturising Spray
Brushes – Sonia Kashuk Boar Bristle Hair Brush
Tools – GHD Straightener, GHD Oracle, GHD Creative Curl Wand

“I love the Charles Worthington Colourplex Ultraviolet Toning Shampoo because it really gets rid of brassy tones on artificially blonde hair, and doesn’t break the bank. Lots of toning shampoos are really pricey, this is the first high street offering which has delivered for me.”

Charles Worthington Colourplex Ultraviolet Toning Shampoo, €9.99

LOUISE’S TOP HAIR TIP

“Don’t overwash your hair. Lots of us are in the habit of washing our hair every day or every second day, when in truth it really doesn’t need it. My hair is fragile because it is heavily coloured, so tends to be really dehydrated. I wash it twice a week, which is plenty.”
