How to achieve glossy glass hair, cut sharp, ultra-shiny and super healthy

In the October issue of IMAGE Magazine, out now, we spoke to the experts to figure out how to achieve glass skin – the most luminous, radiant, wet-looking, highlighted skin of your dreams. If mega-hydration is your beauty aesthetic, you can now take glass skin further than your face. Perfectly glossy glass hair, cut sharp, ultra-shiny and super healthy – known as hashtag glass skin on Instagram – does not just have to be the result of a good hair day.

I think it’s probably the aesthetic I’ve been aiming for every time I straightened my hair, I just didn’t realise extra-shine could be cheated with the help of the right tools and products.

“We’re seeing glass hair everywhere right now, with celebrities like Dua Lipa, Bella Hadid and Olivia Culpo all wearing it with a super blunt bob. The look works particularly well with shorter hair and it really flatters the jaw too,” says Zoe Irwin, ghd UK ambassador.

“To recreate the look, blow dry hair using ghd air hairdryer and use a root lift spray for added hold. This will create the base for the look. Next, the key is using a shine spray before you style your hair for that glass-like shine. Lightly mist all over hair before styling – don’t spray too much as it will make your hair look limp but enough to add elements of shine. Finish by running the new ghd platinum+ styler over the hair and carefully pressing the straightener gently to illuminate any last frizz or kinks.”

For an extra glassy shine, give the hair a supreme clean. Redken Clean Maniac Micellar Clean Touch Shampoo, €18.50, is a sulfate-free shampoo with micellar technology that lifts product build up – the perfect remover of dry shampoo – and dirt, leaving the hair squeaky clean and taking anything that dulls your hair. Follow up a hydrating conditioner, like the new Shu Uemura Ultimate Reset Conditioner, €43.90, for lightweight, non-greasy moisture that will strengthen the hair fibre but won’t weigh the hair down.

Next up, set your glossy hair with Color Wow Dream Coat, €28 at Marks & Spencer, which transforms texture, plus acts as a raincoat to your hair to keep humidity at bay for up to 2-3 shampoos, while sealing in your glass hair.
