Gigi Hadid is our girl crush du jour. She’s not at all the spoiled brat you might expect from an It Girl who rubs shoulders with Kendall Jenner, Taylor Swift and the other girls we wish we were pals with; she’s down to earth, and just like us, she’d always murder a good burger.
Refinery29 recently sat down with the chilled out 20-year-old (yep, she was born in 1995. Depressing, right?) and were treated to the kind of straight-up beauty advice we like to hear.
Unlike other stars who swear by paleo this or gluten-free that, or the Gwyneth Paltrows of this world who say ‘yeah it’s really easy to look this good; you just eat cabbage soup for your three meals a day and it’s grand’ (okay, she didn’t actually say that), Gigi does whatever the hell she wants. Granted, she’s hardly got much work to do at the tender age of twenty, but still, we like where her head is at. On our obsession with getting bikini ready for three months of the year every year, she says: “I grew up in a beach town, which I think is actually a really cool environment for self-acceptance because we’re on the beach year-round. You find how you feel your best – whether you feel better when you’re eating gluten-free or whatever it is. I feel better when I eat a burger every other night. (laughs) I think it’s cool to find what makes you feel healthy all year-round. That should be your beach body. It’s not about being skinny for three months out of the year; it’s about feeling your best the whole year.”

Making her even more human, Gigi admits that she can be quite crap when it comes to removing her make-up at the end of the day. We’re guilty on that front too:
“Kendall [Jenner] is really good about her skin. Like, the second she gets home, she washes her face perfectly. She always knows how to do her makeup; she’s really good at that stuff. I feel like I get lazy and go to sleep sometimes – she never does.”
Her ultimate beauty advice?
“Eat clean, and work out to stay fit – and have a burger to stay sane.”
