Who knew one single hair lesson could change the way I see my hair altogether? Well, it has. And I have to admit, I’m not terribly excited about it…
For my whole life, I aimed for big hair. I have very little hair, but big hair was the goal and by god was I going to get it.
I used volumising shampoos, texture sprays, texture dusts, backcombing and extensions – everything I could think of to give the illusion of more hair.
Well…
For a thin or fine haired person, thicker hair is what you want. I’m eternally jealous when I hear of those people who need undercuts because their own hair is so hard to manage – I would revel in that level of hair management.
But recently I tried something new, and had more people tell me my hair was lovely than ever before.
For the first time I think ever, I prioritised hair health over all else. I tried scalp scrubs, heat protectors, blow dry cremes, new brushes, a lower heat, more regular trims – anything that could give my hair back health, rather than trying to beat volume into it (rather aggressively, to be fair).
As it turns out, while I didn’t quite feel like myself, my hair looked and felt better than ever. I’m not saying it’ll be a permanent thing, but for the moment, keeping my hair looking healthy is working for me.
