After much deliberation online about the new category from the Internet’s favourite beauty brand, we finally know what Glossier Play is.

My Whatsapp chats lit up last week upon the announcement on a new sub-category from the brand (all the guesses were pretty lifestyle focused: “Holly, do you think it will be bath bombs? Athleisure? A Glossier You candle? Crystals?”) but after much time lost reading Reddit threads and deep-dive articles on Glossier’s trademark applications, it seemed pretty clear we were getting exactly what we were promised – more make-up. But why a sub-category? What made this make-up different to the ‘skin first’ make-up that the tribe of beauty lovers who don’t want to bake-strobe-contour have claimed as their own?

Glossier Play, we can finally learn, is the brand’s new “dialled-up beauty extras and Glossier’s take on colour make-up.” Colour cosmetics make-up, according to NPD Group, is set to take up 14.2% of beauty by 2020.

Glossier Play has been two years in the making and brings the core values of Glossier to the world of colour. With four new products, 28 shades and two tools, let’s dive into what’s on offer from the Internet’s favourite beauty brand.

Colorslide

A color-true gel eyeliner pencil that lasts all day and all night.

Vinylic Lip

A high shine lacquer in an easy-to-use click pen format.

Niteshine

A buildable pearlescent highlighter with precision doe-foot applicator.

Glitter Gelée

A one-step glitter gel that creates an instant multi-dimensional, jewelled effect.

There are also two new tools: Blade, a high tech sharpener, and The Detailer, a precise applicator designed for Glitter Gelée.

You can shop everything individually, mix and match, or get one of each with your very own Playground.

This is apparently only the beginning for Glossier Play, more colours, textures and ways to mix are on the way. Check out everything from the range in the gallery above.
