The 15th annual IMAGE Beauty Awards supplement lists the best beauty launches of the last year, in partnership with Boots. The awards are independently judged by Ireland’s leading doctors, dermatologists, beauty professionals, make-up artists, hair experts and influencers.
IMAGE contributing editor Melanie Morris says, “I hope we’ve included some familiar favourites here, along with some future heroes you’ll consider valuable new additions to your beauty bag. We’ve also made sure to pick up plenty of insider pro tips from our expert judging panel and have shared the best with you in the IMAGE Beauty Awards supplement.”
Check out the eight winning SPFs chosen by Dr Rosemary Coleman, consultant dermatologist and skincare specialist, Jennifer Rock, CEO and founder of The Skin Nerd online skin consultancy and creator of the Cleanse Off Mitt, Sinead Gallager, aesthetic nurse and co-founder of the Renew Aesthetic Clinics and Dr Jane Mulrooney, cosmetic dermatologist and co-founder of the Dr Mulrooney Clinic.
Murad City Skin Age Defense Broad Spectrum, €70
“This attacks five signs of ageing, I loved the texture, and it’s a move away from the more chemical SPFs. It’s really lightweight and not too shiny, leaves no white residue, and it’s got a lovely peachy tint to it.”
– Jane Mulrooney
La Roche-Posay Anthelios Invisible Fresh Mist SPF 50, €14
“This tackles redness post-spot, feels comfortable on the skin, and reduces post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.”
– Jennifer Rock
Bioderma Photoderm Max Aquafluide Pocket SPF 50+, €9
“This is quite thick, but it’s perfect for women who are travelling a lot in the car, or for women and men out on the golf course.”
– Jane Mulrooney
Avène Cleanance SPF 50+, €20
“I liked this for oily and acne-prone skin because it’s mattifying with very high protection and no white residue. It’s good enough to be a moisturiser. It’s great to see these different formulations of SPF available at the moment – there’s really no excuse for anybody not using factor 50 every day, as there is a formulation for everything.”
– Rosemary Coleman
Dead Sea Spa Magik Sunsafe Oil Free Facial Gel SPF 50, €20.95
“If you do nothing else to your skin but use SPF, you’ll see results. It will improve pigmentation, the skin will plump up and get thicker and clearer, and of course, it’s anti-ageing. This soaks in, is a great primer, and is very quickly absorbed. It’s great for the oily skinned – people with oily skin don’t have half the selection as people with normal skin – but anyone can use it.”
– Rosemary Coleman
Riemann P20 Continuous Spray SPF 20, €30
“For an ill-disciplined client or someone who will not reapply their SPF, this is a safe bet.”
– Jennifer Rock
Bioderma Photoderm Max Sun Mist SPF50+, €18.50
“I loved the spray, as it’s a very easy application. The skin looked really hydrated afterwards.”
– Sinead Gallagher
Uriage Bariésun Mineral Cream, €20
“This is low irritant if you have allergic skin. It’s also oil-free and water-resistant.”
– Jane Mulrooney
