A lot can be said for adding a pop of colour to your face, right? The lip queens here in the IMAGE offices are discussing lifetime lipstick loves?(trivia: the average woman will spend almost €2000 on this alone in her lifetime), and we’re rounding up our favourite lippies and why they make us feel so great:
Charlotte Tilbury?Pillow Talk
When I was younger my lip glosses all came in sticky, thick fluorescent pink with so much hard glitter they could be sold now as a Kiehl’s lip exfoliator. My favourite lipstick colours were inspired by my granny, Gainne’s: varying shades of burnishing magentas, which she kept lined up in the egg section in the fridge. Now that I’m older and god damn wiser I know that nude is my colour and one of the most glorious joys of this job is that beauty brands send me their nudes, the only kind of nudes any girl wants to receive – varying waxy, smooth, creamy, sheeny delicious shades of skin tone lipsticks. My ultimates so far are?Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk,??32.00?and Poppy King of Lipstick Queen’s Nothing But The Nudes.?-?Holly O’Neill, Beauty Writer at IMAGE magazine, IMAGE.ie
Bobbi Brown’s?Sunset Orange
Bobbi Brown’s Sunset Orange is my ultimate happy lip colour. It’s a bright orangey-red that makes my teeth look whiter, my skin looks brighter and is a fail-safe beauty pick me up when I’m feeling less than perky. I rock it out on days when I’m particularly tired (thanks, kids) and party nights alike. No need to wear much other makeup either, a clean, minimal face with only mascara makes it look modern as opposed to glam and that’s a vibe I prefer. – Ellie Balfe, Editor, IMAGE.ie
MAC’s?Ruby Woo
My all-time favourite is MAC’s Ruby Woo. Wonderfully matte – and seemingly impervious to food and drink-related smudges – it instantly gussies up even the tiredest of complexions or the beddest of hair.- Lucy White, Editor, CARA Magazine
Mac’s?Velvet Teddy
My go-to lipstick is Mac’s Velvet Teddy. I have really small lips and nude lipsticks give the effect of larger, more luscious lips. A girl can dream, eh? -?Niamh O’Donoghue, Staff Writer, IMAGE.ie
Chanel’s?Pirate
Chanel’s Pirate is my all-time favourite shade of red lipstick. I’m told that red suits me so I wear a lot of it as it’s my “happy colour.” When I put on my red lippie, all is well with the world, and I leave the house feeling like I could conquer anything – the mark of a perfect lipstick. It’s a rich, blue-toned red and universally flattering but it particularly?enhances pale skin tones. I like to show this shade off so a flawless base and two coats of mascara is all you need. – ?Jennifer McShane, Staff Writer, IMAGE.ie
YSL’s?Rouge Volupte Fuchsia
I love, love, love the colour of YSL’s Rouge Volupte Fuchsia lipstick. The pop of purple lasts for hours and fades to a nice even tone. It is super easy to apply; the texture is soft and smooth, and the packaging is divine. – ?Aisling O’Grady, IMAGE Editorial Assistant
YSL Rouge Pur Couture Le Orange 13
Lipstick is my desert island beauty item – I would forego all other makeup as long as I had my?precious lippie. I love that you can instantly look more dressed up with just a slash of colour on the lips. My favourite is the YSL Rouge Pur Couture in the colour Le Orange 13. A red lip is a classic but orange is a little bit more unexpected and is surprisingly flattering on most mouths. This lipstick is long-lasting while not being too dry. – Sophie White, Senior Editor, IMAGE.ie
Charlotte Tilbury?Bond Girl
Okay, I’ll admit the name?Charlotte Tilbury Bond Girl?was the initial selling point for me, but the universally flattering berry shade is the reason I’ve repurchased this lipstick countless times since. I wear Bond Girl strictly at night; a messily applied swipe paired with a smoky eye is easily the closest I’ll get to appearing in a 007 flick. And don’t get me started on that packaging? ?– Hannah Grimes, Fashion Assistant, IMAGE Magazine.?
