Inside Eve Hewson and Alison Oliver’s beauty looks at the 2024 Met Gala

08th May 2024

Irish actors Eve Hewson and Alison Oliver and their beauty looks owned the Met Gala's mossy carpet.

Ireland was truly represented at this year’s Met Gala, with Irish design and talent taking over the mossy carpet. County Derry designer and co-host Jonathan Anderson dressed an incredible 16 guests in custom Loewe, including Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, co-chair of the Met’s annual Costume Institute exhibition, and Irish actors Jamie Dornan and Alison Oliver.

Other Irish guests on the night included actors Barry Keoghan in Burberry, Andrew Scott in Versace, Glamour Editor-in-Chief Samantha Barry, McQueen creative director Seán McGirr and Irish actor Eve Hewson. Irish designed heavily featured on the night from Philip Treacy to Richard Quinn, with the Irish massively supporting their own.

Beyond the gúnas, Eve Hewson and Alison Oliver had the best beauty looks on the night too. Eve Hewson wore Irish designer Simone Rocha, a dress made of Simone Rocha signatures – sheer, nude, tulle, ribbons, corseted and embellished with crystal daisy detailing, with ribbon hair to match. “Simone Rocha is the creator of coquette vibes, with bows representing femininity and strength in her designs,” said Halley Brisker, ghd UK ambassador, and the incredible creator of Eve’s show-stopping hair, “so it makes sense that Eve’s hair represents this.”

Halley began by blowing out Eve’s hair smoothly from damp with a blow dry balm using the GHD Helios hairdryer, €189, then using a stiff bristle brush and strong hairspray, saturated Eve’s hair and pulled it into a tight snatched ponytail just above the centre of the back of her head. After securing with an elastic hair band, Halley ran through the ponytail with the ghd Chronos, €329 to reduce the density and add shine. Next up, “using some hairspray to control the flyaways, split your ponytail in two and create two separate braids before bending into bow shapes and pinning onto the back of the head in a bow shape,” explains Halley, “pinning into place and leaving the tails to work with at the base of the original ponytail. Fold your remaining parts of the braids over the middle of the base of your folded area and pin into place leaving two tendrils to flow down the back of the head.” Last step, hairspray. For Alison’s gleaming glow, she looked to (who else) the incredibly talented Aimee Connolly, founder of Sculpted by Aimee. “We’re honoured to collaborate with Alison Oliver at the Met Gala,” says Aimee. “It’s a significant milestone for our brand and a testament to our team’s dedication to creating high-quality, innovative beauty products. We’re thrilled to be part of Alison’s journey on such a grand stage.”

Alison’s illuminating base was created with Cloud Cream, €35, and the dewy Satin Silk Foundation, €32, with a sultry brown eye and softly lined brown toned lip in line with the hues of her look created with Love Story Palette, €39, Prime Eyes in Chocolate, €24 and the incredibly innovative Lip Duo Tan Twin, €19. To recreate the look, Aimee has a tutorial over on Instagram, check it out here.
