Is it time to inject some spring into your make-up routine?

Is it time to inject some spring into your make-up routine?

All we can talk about in the office this week is that spring is most definitely in the air. We know it’s still February, but the weather feels milder, the mornings are brighter and the sun has been shining. It’s not only our wardrobes that need a shake-up at this time of year but our make-up routines too. We are creatures of habit and its easy to use the same products each day.

Despite the fact we are getting quite ahead of ourselves, we can keep the spring momentum going with our beauty choices, as the weather almost certainly will turn on us. See below for our top picks of spring beauty;

Switch to cream products

Glossier Haloscope in Quartz; €21.00 at glossier.com

The simplest and most effective thing to do is switch to creamier products. Ditch the powder highlight, blush and contour and look for something dewier. In winter, we go for matte, velvety finishes that look flawless but spring calls for a lighter, softer touch. Glossier is our brand of choice for achieving that glossy-glow, and if we had to choose one product for you? Their Haloscope highlighter; it comes in three shades and the waxy, non-pigmented centre adds a beautiful, youthful sheen to the tops of cheekbones.

Go pinker with your blush

Daniel Sandler Watercolour Liquid Blush;£16.50 at cultbeauty.co.uk

Nothing says springtime like rosy pink cheeks that look as if you’ve been out for a brisk walk. Something I’ve had on rotation for years is the Daniel Sandler Watercolor Blushes. They feel very much as the name suggests — like watercolours that are light and easy to build. The texture is very runny so it can take some time to get used to using, but when you do, you’ll be hooked. It looks so natural on the skin as the texture is light as air, the perfect product for a springtime flush.

Ditch the matte lip

Bobbi Brown Nourishing Lip Color; €27.00 at brownthomas.com

In winter we are all about the matte lip, with dark red, burgundies and wine shades reigning supreme. As we feel that seasonal shift, it can be nice to switch these out for something lighter and glossier. Suddenly, our matte colours can feel a bit harsh day-to-day, so for something softer, you can go for more of a sheeny texture like the Nourishing Lip Colors from Bobbi Brown, which are also full of oils to hydrate lips.

Try brown instead of black eyeliner

Charlotte Tilbury Rock n Kohl: Iconic Liquid Eye Pencil in Barbarella Brown €25.00 at arnotts.ie

If you’re getting tired of your go-to black liquid liner, brown can be a nice alternative. Charlotte Tilbury’s Rock N’Kohl liners are amazing as they are so soft and easily blended. Try using this in Barbarella Brown along the lash line; you can still flick this outwards as you would with black but it will be so much softer than a sharp liquid liner.
