Johnny Depp stars in the ad for Dior’s newest fragrance, Dior Sauvage.
Dior’s fragrance ads are really going hell for dramatic leather of late. First there was Robert Pattison’s nihilistic sexy existence in a devised-by-a-fashion-photographer metropolis. Then Natalie Portman did a wedding runner via a Cliffside helicopter lift to Janis Joplin.
The latest star to embalm himself in the attractive mystery that is the Dior creative department is Johnny Depp, in a urban road movie of sorts shot by famed music video director and photographer Jean Baptiste Mondino. Johnny plays a man on the run from something – perhaps a criminal tribe of sorts, or himself. There’s a speeding car through a city nightscape, guitar, a desert where even the air is sand coloured and a buffalo giving Johnny side eye before our anti-hero, that’s what they all are now, buries rosary beads and gives us a look at his eye make-up.
For a man of 52 years, Mr. Depp is still making good on his status as a nineties, noughties, and whatever we’re calling this decade sex symbol. As regards his film career, he’s got another Pirates of the Carribean movie on the horizon, as well as Black Mass, a crime movie about Whitey Bulger which co-stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Dakota Johnson.
The ad is for Dior Sauvage, the new fragrance for men from the Parisian house.
Here’s a reminder of Dior’s last high-profile sexy actor jaunt. So, Johnny Depp or Robert Pattinson?
