Gwyneth Paltrow is a creative director, and it’s the go-to brand for eco-conscious starlets such as Kate Hudson and Alicia Silverstone. Now Juice Beauty is finally available on our shores courtesy of The Clean Beauty Edit.

If sustainability was the big beauty trend of last year, 2020 is all about clean beauty.

In recent years, brands — both old and new — have released ‘clean’ lines featuring green’, or ‘organic’ and ‘sustainable’ skincare and make-up products.

This is partly down to brands realising that consumers are more conscious when it comes to their purchases. From fashion, to groceries and facial serums, we are all better informed of the impact fast fashion and toxic ingredients can have on our environment, and ourselves.

But there is one brand that hasn’t just been talking the talk when it comes to clean beauty. Rather, Juice Beauty, considered an OG brand when it comes to organic skincare and make-up lines, has been a pioneer in the clean beauty game since it was launched in 2005.

And now, thanks to Irish beauty emporium The Clean Beauty Edit, Juice Beauty is available to buy in Ireland for the first time.

What is clean beauty?

Clean beauty products should be both safe for people and the planet. Ingredients in clean beauty should be ‘non-toxic’ and safe to use, ideally botanical and natural in origin, and without risk of short-term or long-term health hazards. According to consultant dermatologist Dr Anjali Mahto, there is no set definition, but clean beauty is largely taken to mean “products which are natural or organic and products lacking synthetic preservatives such as parabens”.

Organic: According to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), organic food is the product of an agricultural or aquacultural system of farming that places a strong emphasis on environmental protection and animal welfare.

Green: The term green means no harm was done to the environment throughout the manufacturing process, i.e. organic ingredients, ethical and fair trade practices, environmentally friendly packaging etc.

Sustainable: Brands who claim sustainability usually package its products as cruelty-free, with sustainably sourced ingredients and either recyclable or biodegradable packaging.

The Clean Beauty Edit

The Clean Beauty Edit is an Irish website which stocks ethical brands that use high-performance formulations and have strict sustainability rules. You can shop according to your preferences, from vegan to zero waste and plastic-free, and you’ll find everything from biodegradable tampons to toothpaste in glass jars and deodorants in paper tubes, as well as gorgeous skincare, make-up, haircare and wellness gifts and supplements.

As well as the recently added Juice Beauty, The Clean Beauty Edit also stocks more than 20 organic and vegan brands, including The Organic Pharmacy, Ilia Beauty, Innersense, Agent Nateur and more.

Juice Beauty

Founded in 2005, Juice Beauty paved the way for other clean beauty brands. Originally launching an organic skincare line with naturally formulated ingredients that are kind to both our skin and the environment, the brand has maintained its position as a leading light in the clean beauty world, without compromising on quality.

The initial premise was simple: to create luxurious skincare with an antioxidant and vitamin-rich organic botanical juice base, rather than petroleum derivatives or added water, and combining it with powerful skincare ingredients.

Today, the company boasts lifestyle and wellness guru Gwyneth Paltrow as its creative director, and has gone on to launch Juice Beauty Make-up, which follows the same strict clean guidelines as the skincare range.

Celebrities such as Kate Hudson have spoken about the benefits of Juice Beauty’s products for her red carpet prep, and Alicia Silverstone collaborated on a range of products. And now, Juice Beauty skincare and make-up are available to Irish audiences, through the Clean Beauty Edit.

All products are vegan, certified organic and cruelty-free, and all packing, ingredient-sourcing and the entire manufacturing process is sustainable.

We can’t wait to place the Juice Beauty Stem Cellular 2-in-1 Cleanser into our virtual shopping basket. This gentle and conditioning formula is said to remove make-up and deeply cleanse the skin in one move. It’s the ideal prep for the Stem Cellular CC Cream, which we’ve been using for our Zoom video calls from home. This colour-correcting cream is available in seven shades, contains SPF 30 and is rich in antioxidants — ideal for our vitamin D-starved skin.

We’ve also got our eye on the Phyto-pigments Luminous Lip Crayon in shade Malibu — perfect for adding a pop of colour for our video calls. This jumbo-sized lip crayon — available in six shades, from subtle nudes to colour pop reds — will not dry out the lips like other crayons thanks to its unique blend of plant-derived phyto-pigments with replenishing emollients.
