MAC Model Responds Brilliantly To Internet Trolls

MAC Model Responds Brilliantly To Internet Trolls

MAC Cosmetics’ Instagram page was recently flooded with offensive comments (none of which we’ll repeat here) from Internet trolls after the cosmetics brand posted a photo of a model’s lips. The image, which showcased the beauty look from Ohne Titel’s show at New York Fashion Week, was of 19-year-old model Aamito Lagum, who took to her own Instagram in a (now-deleted) post to address the haters.

A photo posted by M?A?C Cosmetics (@maccosmetics) on

“As I read the comments below this picture, I felt so insecure and a bit embarrassed as I just wrapped up fashion week, a time period that is tough on models (especially black models) as we encounter the harsh reality of the fashion world,” she wrote.

She’s now fighting back against the horrid bullies and taken part in the #PrettyLipsPeriod. The hashtag, which was started by Pretty.Period, aims to “give lip love to our sistas” by encouraging women of colour?to upload photos of themselves and their favourite lip shade to Twitter and Instagram using #PrettyLipsPeriod.

Lagum then posted an illustrated version of MAC’S image on her Instagram, using the hashtag to show her support for the movement:

Since winning the modelling reality television programme Africa’s Next Top Model in 2013, Lagum has modelled for Marc Jacobs, Paul Smith, Bottega Veneta and H&M, she has also appeared in magazines including British Vogue and Vanity Fair.

The beauty company also made their own gesture of support after the incident:

It is so incredibly sad that a clearly beautiful model is subjected to cruel, crude comments for having a facial feature that most would be envious of.

The original image is now flooded with messages of support.

More power to her for not staying silent on the issue and taking a stand.
