The natural nail trend sweeping Instagram (and why it’s about time)

The natural nail trend sweeping Instagram (and why it’s about time)

The natural nail is back! Or should I say, the natural-looking nail. In a world where chaos is everywhere, bring it back to basics with your next manicure…

I am very much over complicated nail art. I appreciate the skill, I love how it looks when finished, I even considered getting some at one point… which is unlike me. But now, I’m loving the swerve back towards simple, chic nails. It’s all over Instagram, and I’m enjoying the break from mani madness. Here are some options to bring to your next appointment.

Faux naturelle

Don’t get it twisted — this simple polish can take almost as much precision and effort as complex nail art. You’ll still need a highly skilled nail tech, but the sleek, clean hint of a french mani will be this look’s gift to your hands.

Make your point

If your preference is still for almond-shaped, stiletto or squoval nails, work away. Shape isn’t the main issue here, it’s the abject lack of nail art that we’re trying to bring back around.

Block party

You can still choose a block colour, don’t worry. I’ll have to forgo my eternal love for red next time, of course, but this pure pink shade is in keeping with the natural nail trend and looks good on any skin tone.

Simple still

Simplicity reigns, even when it comes to injecting a little bit of detail into the nail. If you can’t keep away from some intricate art, this incredibly delicate work would look great. Think of the precision!

Likewise, a contrasting coloured mini tip can be a simple, elegant addition if you really can’t bear to go completely plain. This black example is one I’ll be screenshoting to bring to my next manicure.
